Fall is just too short, isn't it? 🍂

There are pumpkins to put out, mums to plant, apple c***r to drink… and somehow, before we know it, we're packing it all away and pulling out the Christmas totes. [It's coming, quick - gals!]

And somewhere in the middle of all that, I think we ought to make a little time for the FUN stuff, too.

Like getting together with a girlfriend you haven't seen in a while. Or spending a Saturday morning doing something just because it makes you happy.

We're getting together next Saturday for Pumpkin Spice & Paint, and I thought I'd give you one last little reminder.

This one is for my gals who would rather have a paintbrush in their hand than arrange flowers. We're making these wooden pumpkin signs, and I think they're going to be so cute!

And the treats?
Caramel apple nachos. 🍎

Have mercy. If you know, you know. And if you don't, we are going to fix that.

Add a little pumpkin spice coffee, some good conversation, and a table full of women just enjoying being together… sounds like a pretty good Saturday morning to me.

We have a couple seats left for next Saturday, October 17, at 10 AM.

So, if you've been thinking about coming, we'd love to pull up a chair for you. Come with your bestie, or come on your own. Either way, you'll be among friends.

Well... apparently Old Soul has a new boss. 🩷

Emerson stopped by to check on things, inspect the Fall decorations and make sure we were all doing our jobs properly.

Judging by those crossed arms, I feel like I'm about to receive my performance review. 😂

This little guy is my nephew, and goodness gracious, does he have all of us wrapped around those tiny little fingers.

But looking at him standing there made me think about something... Mason was just a little older than Emerson is now when we started this whole Old Soul adventure.

One of my favorite things about having a family business is just that... the family part. Babies come through the door. Kids grow up running around the shop. Someone is always stopping in. There are snacks and toys mixed in with paint brushes and orders.

It isn't always the easiest way to run a business. There have been plenty of days when family and work and life have all been happening at exactly the same time... but maybe that's part of what makes this place so special to me.

Our family isn't just behind Old Soul. Our family is woven right through it.

And these little faces sure are a good reminder of why we work so hard in the first place. When that time comes, I just can't wait to hear about how Old Soul was built right into all their childhood memories...

So, welcome to management, Emerson! The hours are long, but I have snacks!!

Today, I just didn't have it in me.

That's not something I say very often. I'm usually pretty good at finding another project, another idea, another something that needs done. But after lots of long days in the workshop, an AMAZING weekend of crafting with so many of you, a couple boys who haven't been feeling 100%, cooler weather rolling in... and these old bones reminding me that they aren't quite as young as my brain thinks they are ... I just couldn't get myself motivated today.

So instead of heading over to the workshop, I grabbed an LM coffee, curled up on the couch at home and looked around at this view for a while.

And here's something I'm not particularly proud of... I feel guilty when I don't work.

That's a deep-rooted one for me. There is ALWAYS something I could be doing. Something that needs painted. An order that needs finished. An idea I could be working on. And somewhere along the way, I think I started believing that if I wasn't doing something productive, I was wasting time.

I'm trying to get better at that.

Because one of the things I've been thinking about a lot lately is how easy it is to work so hard for the life you prayed for... that you forget to actually enjoy the life you prayed for.

And please don't misunderstand me... not everything is perfect. There are worries and hard things and things I wish were different. There are prayers we're still waiting on answers to.

But there is so much good here, too.

And I don't want to be so busy worrying about what's unfinished, what's next, or what needs fixed that I miss what God has already put right in front of me.

So today looked a little different. I puttered around the house, added a few little touches of Fall, took care of my boys, drank my coffee, curled up on the couch and looked around at this home and this life we've been blessed with... and gave myself permission to leave the workshop alone for a minute.

And you know what?

I think it's exactly what my heart needed.

The work will still be there tomorrow. There will still be things to paint and orders to fill and a million ideas bouncing around in my head. Lord knows those aren't going anywhere...

But this season will.

These cooler afternoons. Boys at home who still need their momma. A quiet house decorated for Fall. A comfy couch. Coffee on the table. Ordinary days that don't seem particularly important while we're living them.

We've talked about that before, haven't we?

So if you're wired a little like me... if sitting down immediately makes you start thinking about all the things you should be doing... I hope you find a little peace in the rest, too.

Maybe rest isn't time we're wasting.

Maybe sometimes it's how we say thank you for the life we've been given. ❤️

Today, I'm trying to believe that.

Fall looks pretty good on this old gal... 🍂
but wait till you see the inside!

We've been busy Open House Fall-ifying the inside of Old Soul all week, but it was finally time to take a little of the fun OUTSIDE.

And, like my momma always said, bigger is better. (Especially in her Aqua Net era. 😂)

Speaking of my momma... did you spot that giant pumpkin in the picture? That whole thing started with Mom sending me a picture of this HUGE tire someone was giving away for free - because it HAD to be a pumpkin. We loaded that bad boy up, painted it, added some driftwood for a stem... and I'll admit, she was right! It had to be!

Check out that little blue truck too! That idea came from a sheet of foam insulation, a book I used to read to the boys, spray foam, exterior paint and Andrew cutting out the shape for me. She's loaded up with pumpkins, and she's looking pretty darn cute sitting out front. Toot toot beep beep. 😂

I think that's one of my favorite parts of what we do around here. We look at ordinary things and wonder what else they could be. And then I say something along the lines of, “Andrew... I have an idea.”

Bless that man.

So this weekend, put on those flannels and park yourselves right out front next to our little blue truck and I'll snap your picture! I have a few more things up my sleeve for outside on Saturday when the C***r Station comes to life... but for now, I think this is enough of my big ideas for Andrew to help me bring to life.

Probably.

And as much fun as we've had getting this old gal all dressed up for Fall... just wait until you walk through those doors. We've been making, painting, building, arranging and Fall-ifying just about every inch of the place, and I cannot WAIT for you to see what we've been working on.

Fall looks pretty good on this old gal... but wait till you see the inside. ❤️

See you this weekend, Sunshines!
