“String Theory”

To the quantum physicist, the one, prevailing understanding of the composition of all matter and energy is named string theory : that our entire physical world breaks down to the smallest bits of string that vibrate in different dimensions. To understand the nature of the very, very small and how it relates to the totality of all things epitomizes the scientist's quest, the search for singularity, exquisite simplicity.

The artist’s greatest ambition mirrors the scientist’s-- that is, the creation of exquisite complexity. How interesting, that when an artist is capable of such complexity we all call that him or her “singular”.

All this perfectly describes Jimi Hendrix, who began so very small, and who, within one short burst of a lifetime, became the most singular instrumentalist the entire musical universe has ever known.

His strings vibrating, vibrating, leading us all to a new understanding of the different dimensions and transcendent realities of sound.

He stands as I imagine him, lost in a note. Unconcerned, unaware that he has transcended even those things that rooted him to this physical, material world: his guitars.

He plays, impassioned yet anchored by a cosmic energy that rises around him; he plays the universe itself, with sounds impossible to make with just two human hands.

Finished in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his setting the world on fire in Monterey.

We just created the page for the Monterey Music Experience crowdfunding project! Our goal is to build a Jazz, Rock and Blues museum in Monterey showcasing the Monterey Jazz Festival, the 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival and the Monterey Bay Blues Festival. Our vision is that Monterey become a "music destination" as it should be. We appreciate your support and Likes!

Our vision is to infuse a major dose of Jazz, Rock and Blues into the Monterey Peninsula for both local residents and daily visitors to enjoy. With so much rich music history existing right here in Monterey, it only makes sense that a Jazz, Rock and Blues themed exhibit be created. The "MME" Exhibit will feature permanent displays of Jazz, Rock and Blues, as well as other music genres that have had a significant impact on American mass culture. The exhibit will be at the Museum of Monterey right in the heart of town.
