Please see the attached flyer promoting the annual VOICES OF THE PAST cemetery tours on Saturday, October 17. The FREE event is sponsored by the Montgomery Historical Society. It is a wonderful educational opportunity for children and adults to learn more about the early settlers in Montgomery County.

At 11am that morning at the New Cemetery in Montgomery, a memorial bench will be dedicated in honor of Pat Spackey who was a descendant of Charles B. Stewart and a passionate promoter of the Lone Star Flag in all respects.

English gave up a perfectly good word a few hundred years ago, and Texas quietly put it back. 🤠

Standard English used to have a singular you and a plural you. Thou and ye collapsed into one word, and ever since then speakers have been stuck with a you that might mean one person or forty. Every dialect on earth eventually builds a workaround for it. Up north they made you guys. Some places went with youse or you all. Texas built y'all, and then it did something most of the others never bothered with.

It built a second tier. Y'all covers a group you are talking to. All y'all is for when you need it understood that you mean absolutely everyone present, no exceptions, including the ones at the back quietly hoping they were not included in this. A mother saying all y'all get in here is not repeating herself for emphasis. She is closing a loophole. The grammar of it is genuinely more precise than what it replaced.

Linguists will back this up, for the record. 📚 It is a real and useful distinction, and the fact that it sounds casual has nothing to do with whether it works.

🚧 Gateway & Wayfinding Installation Begins! 🚧

Exciting things are happening around Montgomery! Over the next couple of weeks, you'll start seeing new gateway and park identification signs going up around town — like the ones now welcoming visitors to Fernland Historical Park and Homecoming Park.

Over the next several months, additional public parking signs will be installed throughout Downtown Montgomery, along with wayfinding signage throughout the city to help residents and visitors navigate Montgomery with ease.

This project is made funded by the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation, with the support of Montgomery City Council.
