A bit of history, which you can read more about in our current newsletter -- On June 27th, 1981, Stephanie Allen-Krauss's mother, Anne Ashworth and a number of other women got together at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center, for what became the first meeting of what eventually came what is now called the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild (GMRHG). Annie Spring, who passed away in 2011, was an amazing teacher, especially in the area of "oriental" style rugs. My mother spoke of her teaching style: "When a new student arrives, Annie tells her, 'You tell me what you want, so this rug will be you; otherwise it will be me."

Patty Yoder (1943-2005) moved from Nebraska to Ohio, and then with her husband to a small sheep farm in Tinmouth, Vermont in 1992, where, without any formal training, she began her short and spectacular rug hooking career.

This particular one, "H is for Hannah & Sarah, A Civil Union" was part of her 26-piece series called "The Alphabet of Sheep" and like many of her works reflected on timely current events.
