Ok, ok…update on the flower show!
Once the categories I had entries in were done, I had to jet because my kids were showing their chickens that day and the floral show always overlaps with the poultry show. Anyway, apparently my arrangement featuring the squirrel received “Judges Distinction!” It was basically the judge saying, “your entry didn’t totally fit the rigid guidelines but it’s still wicked cool.”
This ribbon is for the squirrel…and Granny…
Showcasing my entry is Maddie, one of my nonbiological daughters. 😂

The Williams County Fair floral show has been something I’ve done for myself the last 3 years. Following rules set by the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs, it’s strikingly different from traditional floral design. I always struggle to stick to the rules and not fall into what feels comfortable, so even though I may love what I’ve created, it doesn’t always place well. This year’s judge wasn’t a fan of any of my entries…he’s wrong, but wadda ya do?
Fun Fact: The squirrel featured in my Still Life entry is from my Granny’s collection and made an appearance at my wedding reception almost 20 years ago! She felt my outdoorsman husband needed something for him there. 😂

I am often asked where I get my flowers. Like most florists, I have great relationships with several wholesale suppliers that ship in the very best from around the world but my favorite suppliers are local! The local growing season provides blooms and foliage that aren’t offered, or can be expensive to get, via wholesale.
This casket saddle was created with material from Straw Hat Farms, by Montpelier. I spent an hour with Darlene, walking her property, cutting gorgeous flowers and foliage, and learning about what she’s hoping to plant and expand on next growing season.
I love my network of local growers and am super bummed when Jack Frost shows up and ends my local supply!
But back to this saddle; it was created for a super sweet gentleman that loved fishing, so a natural outdoor look was essential!

I die a little inside when people ask me to make things small…I’m definitely a “go big” kind of person. So when Shia Coleman invited me to collab on a styled shoot, I went big!

I only did the bridal party flowers but this couple’s reception was SO CUTE and designed with intention and a ton of thoughtful detail! Table numbers featured pictures of the couple at the age of the table number and titled, “When we were…” They were also the nicest couple; so much fun designing for them!
