‘There is a hollowness inside me; it’s deeper than I wanted to go.’ - Patty
Like many communities in Central Vermont, Montpelier has been pulled off center by a flood with no name. Larry and I, in regard to AWE, are at a loss. We will not reopen the store as we are too new to make a comeback; we had yet to pay ourselves, have outstanding inventory debts, and, most importantly, we owe loved ones monies for creating this dream.
Monday late afternoon, we got all but two wool carpets up high and moved items, as suggested, at least a foot off the floor. Wednesday evening, when we could get back into AWE, we witnessed the basement filled to the very top and water filling the stairwell. The water on our first-floor storefront had reached 11 inches (so much better off than so many). It was enough with the waves, yes waves, to touch the bottom row of things, which soaked up moisture. In the next weeks, we’ll be sorting items that are now stored in a dry building (yet another thank you to friends), hoping we saved them in time from holding water or taking on the odors, and we’ll be deciding what will be next for the wonderful goods AWE has housed. (Perhaps a pop-up sale or two?)
In the meantime, abundant thanks are not enough to those who reached out or arrived to help with this massive mucking up and packing up project. To the numerous volunteers who offered labor, food, water, fans, hoses, hugs, and love, we are humbled and honored to have you in our lives and hearts.
And now, if you are able, we are asking for a bit of financial help.
Again, we are humbled (and AWEd).

I feel uncomfortable posting an address of Venmo here.
PM if you are able.
Thank you.
