I’ve been lucky enough to spend some time working outside in the past week. Honestly, in the throes of events season, tending my gardens is the last thing I have time for… But both my cutting gardens and my mental state were in dire need of hands on soil and stems… I feel very fortunate to be upstate in October… All the color made me think of Becca and Matt‘s beautiful color saturated wedding a few Octobers past, and how I got to pluck some of that color right from my very own plot of land.

Oh… and orange, in all its radiant shades, happens to be one of my favorite colors. Far more versatile than it’s given credit for ..

How I like my late summer. A bit of stridence, a whole lot of texture, with a dash of bittersweet.
Hope everyone gets outside for the last official weekend of summer!

It’s that wild time of year - where the perennial landscape, nearing 6 months of push, begins to outgrow itself - to reach, sprawl and fall - and events have me reeling like a rodeo, and I find myself dreaming of trees…

It’s that time of year where the landscape comes ablaze with the most strident of colors, summer’s last gasp before collapsing to make way for fall… This is a native landscape we designed and installed a number years back at one of my favorite properties, an Orient Point home designed and built by the supremely talented architecture firm Ogawa | Depardon Architects

I closed the build/maintain portions of my garden business for practical reasons, but my heart is still planted in all of them…
