The gallery was open about 20 minutes late this morning, and I received a couple of phone calls and one in particular that was a little offputting. My dog Louise passed away today in the early morning hours and it made me late to work, I posted the delay on our page - it was the best I could do.
I was actually here well in advance of when I expected to be here.
I apologize that the gallery was not open precisely at 10:30 to anyone who I might have inconvenienced. I have buried both of my 14-year-old companions within two weeks of one another. My point for this post is - please remember that when you’re dealing with small businesses you’re not entitled to them - they are small businesses run with heart and soul.
Occasionally, there are things that happen in life that we have no control over so I’m asking that you be mindful of that when you’re speaking with people, especially those who have experienced loss.

Custom framing a tea towel.
We’ve done quite a few of these this summer so I thought I would show part of the process with you. A few of the tea towels that we framed this summer were quite old, which is not the case with this one, but my point is they can be in any sort of shape and still usually stretch beautifully - as this one did.
The process begins with stretching using pins and acid free foam board backing then it’s really just a matter of matting and creating foam board spacers to go around the piece on the back to help support the stretched towel. The important thing here is there are no adhesives involved so you’re always able to remove the piece of fabric if you so choose, although it would be easiest to take it to a frame shop it is possible to do it yourself with a little knowledge.
This is the same way that we stretch lots of needle work, which we also do a fair amount of - always - in an archival manner.
Hundreds of pins can be used on a single piece of framing if that gives you an idea how time-consuming some of these can be - but the results are fantastic and our goal is always to make sure that we are preserving whatever it is that we frame.
This method also works for many other kinds of fabric, flags, and as I mentioned, needle work, framing.

This amazing oversized book chronicling Morgantown‘s multi award-winning Pikewood National Golf Course from its beginning through present day.
This would be an amazing Christmas gift for golf enthusiasts - available at the golf course and here at the Appalachian Gallery. ($250)
This book is full of wonderful photography of the course, illustrations and the charming story of its creation - and I mean WONDERFUL West Virginia landscape photography.
