Simple way to make your stamped concrete more consistent.

Sometimes the concrete has varied set times across the slab or there's weird weather, or a crew member misplaces a stamp. You are not always going to be able to completely prevent squeeze between stamps. Some people never notice the little things that go wrong, but others absolutely will. Leaving squeeze or poorly imprinted grout lines is a bad look for your business and for stamped concrete in general. Stamped concrete is meant to be a high end look that someone can confidently choose for more customizability.

Improving the general opinion of stamped concrete will help you and crew get more jobs each season. You don't want someone's neighbor seeing a 1/4" lip between a bunch of stones and thinking, "WOW, I'll never get a stamped concrete patio!" and then they go get a paver patio installed by someone that's not you. You want them to think, "WOW! I can't even tell that it's concrete!" and then they're calling to get into your schedule early next spring. AND, they're already telling their friends how excited they are to get such quality work done at their house and you start getting more and more calls.

It's a good thing to be busy. It's also a good thing to be known as the crew who does the best work and doesn't cut corners. If it's a guarantee that you are going to do the job right every time, then you are going to HAVE to charge more, otherwise you will be TOO busy to fit everyone into your schedule.

Grout rollers are a super cheap and easy way to make your finished product look professional. It's a stupid simple tip, but don't forget to actually do it as you're stamping. If you've got a lean crew and need to work fast, then just carry one size roller in your pocket and knock down the major mistakes. If someone's available for touch-ups, then absolutely carry two different sized rollers to create "custom" touch-ups. The difference isn't super noticable across a few stones. But when you're walking around the whole area, it just feels right to have more variance in the grout lines.

Roll Eze is a tune-up, not a trade-in.

That slab has got plenty of life left. Roll, brush, or spray on the color, and keep every bit of the texture that's already there. Don't bother with tearing it out and starting new.

Take notes... time for a lesson.

In 60 seconds, we're going over the key details of this restorative coating. Roll Eze is truly super easy to use, I mean really easy. We have multiple installs that you can't tell it was "restored," it just looks the same as the first day the concrete was poured. That means yes, the coating does hold up in freeze thaw because it's a cement based coating and doesn't use the same mechanism as a paint, pretty neat.

We know that there's PLENTY of patios, driveways, etc poured in the 90s and 2000s that are begging to be restored. The concrete from back then is probably still in good condition (because it's not type 1L), but the decades of sun and salt really have worn it down. These situations are exactly what Roll Eze is meant for. We have seen it first hand countless times; after the concrete gets Roll Eze, some tique, and a sealer, it seriously looks like a higher value space.

Roll Eze is kind of like paint for stamped concrete... even though it's **technically** not a paint, it's a cementitious coating.

If the color is faded, uneven, or just looking tired, you can roll it on, bring the surface back to life, and still keep all that original stamped texture.

There's plenty of concrete poured in the 90's that begging to be restored.

Idaho Ranch Concrete Firepit, Patio, and Wall.

Check out this awesome hardscape done by Luis Lugo.

The firepit and wall were done with Tru Pac X. The emblems and details are a mix of custom artwork and some Walttools animal stamps (deer side profile, deer face and rack, the compass, and end of trail).

Staining is art.
To finish off this outdoor kitchen, we used a reactive concrete stain for the top surface which was a lighter color.

For the striations, clefts, and vertical texture we used a combination of various water-based stains (Tru Tint WB: all the colors are shown in the video).

Pretty interesting coloring, right?

Good dry stack stone comes down to how each piece fits into the next.
Using Tru Pac X, we break down a few key sculpting details: varying stone size and depth, the concept of touch-points, avoiding 4-ways, and creating natural ledges and shadow lines. Those small decisions are what make the finished work feel like real stone laid one piece at a time.

What a makeover 🤩 Nice job Fred Stewart! Roll Eze restorations are always so satisfying.
