Thursday check-in from your local scent shop 🕯️

Hey, if you're new here, I'm Nathan. I'm a local scent scientist (yes, that's really what I call myself) and I run Wicksy out of The Morrow Arts Center in Morrow, OH.

We make unique, nostalgic fragrances for your home, body, bath, and cleaning routine. Candles, laundry soaps, dish soaps, car fresheners, and honestly so much more. Over 20 products and counting.

If you've been seeing our posts and haven't made it in yet, take this as your sign. We're at 10 Miranda St inside a beautiful historic schoolhouse building surrounded by other amazing small shops and services. Come find us Wednesday through Saturday 10am to 6pm, and Sundays 12pm to 4pm.

Okay, weekly update time because a LOT is happening and I want you guys to know about all of it.

This week I'm deep in restock mode. Foaming hand soaps, candles, wax melts, car fresheners, bar soaps, body oils, and laundry detergents are all getting replenished. But the thing I'm probably most excited about right now is our incense situation.

We've been working with incense sticks for a while, and I kept running into the same wall. They're just too difficult to produce at scale to actually keep up with demand the way I want to.

So we're making a change. We're switching to incense cones, and honestly I think you're going to love them. Expect to see them hitting shelves in the next few days.

Now for the big one.

Hey friends!!! Where the Wildflowers Are launched this morning, and honestly it feels like the right fragrance for the right day. It's Earth Day, the world outside is waking back up, and this scent is everything I wanted it to be.

It was inspired by the European countryside. That specific kind of quiet you only get when you're surrounded by open fields, wildflowers as far as you can see, and warm air that smells like it's been carrying something sweet for miles. I wanted to bottle that feeling. The slowness of it. The beauty of somewhere that doesn't ask anything from you.

It opens with lemongrass and bergamot, bright and a little unexpected. Then it settles into orange blossom, rose, and honey, which is the heart of it, the part that made me know this one was special. And it dries down into amber, musk, and cedar. Warm. Grounded. The kind of scent that stays with you.

And because we're celebrating, we're running buy 3 get 1 free mix and match storewide through Sunday. Any product, any scent.

A few other things worth mentioning while I have you:

The home cleaners have been flying off the shelves and I am so grateful for the response. The all purpose cleaners, dish soaps, foaming hand soaps, laundry soaps, and scent boosters have all been such a hit and it genuinely means so much. We're restocking and working to get them up to the same standards as everything else in the shop, so bear with us. Good things take a little time.

I also want to make sure nobody gets left out. We recently launched fragrance free options for anyone who loves what we do but is sensitive to scent, even the gentler ones. Our Moon Glow Body Oil and our Moisturizing Cream (aka Hand + Body Lotions) are both available fragrance free. The cream is packed with vitamins and hydrating butters and oils and it is genuinely so good for your skin. No scent, no compromise.

I just restocked the whipped sugar soaps this morning and I'm working on a fresh batch of bar soaps for tomorrow. And if you've been around here a while, you know when I say stay tuned, I mean it. Body wash and bubble baths are coming in May and I cannot wait to share more.

It’s Friday and the sun is finally out, so that feels like reason enough to come say hi 🌤️

We’ve been busy behind the scenes this week getting the shop restocked and ready for you.

Candles, wax melts, car fresheners, foaming hand soaps, hand and body lotions, and our brand new bar soaps are all getting topped off. The bar soaps just launched and I’m honestly so proud of them. $5 a bar, plant based, and they leave your skin feeling so good. Simple, clean, and they actually work.

A few things worth knowing before you stop in:

Buy 3 Get 1 Free (mix & match) is running all this week and next week as we build up to the launch of our Earth Day fragrance, Where The Wildflowers Are. More on that soon, but trust me it’s worth the wait.

We’re also still running our Little Miami Choir fundraiser through May 31st. Pick up the Orchids By The Sea fragrance and 50% of proceeds go straight to their program. It’s a beautiful scent and an even better reason to grab it.

I’m still kind of in shock, honestly…

According to BusinessRate, Wicksy is ranked the #1 candle store in Ohio. Out of 140 businesses. The whole state.

We were also just awarded #1 in Warren County for Best of 2026. We got the letter in the mail a few weeks back and I couldn’t believe it.

After looking, I found we are ranked #98 in the entire United States.

I need you to understand what that means for a small shop in Morrow, Ohio that didn’t exist five years ago. There are thousands of candle businesses in this country. And somehow, because of you, we are sitting inside the top 100 in the country.

I started this in 2021 with a lot of hope and not a lot of certainty. There were nights I questioned everything. Wondered if anyone outside of my little circle would ever care about what I was making. Wondered if Morrow, Ohio was too small of a place to build something that actually lasted.

And then you all just… kept showing up.

You came in on days when you didn’t have to. You bought our products as gifts for people you love. You told your friends. You left kind words that I read more often than you probably know. You made Wicksy feel like something real.

These awards don’t belong to me. They belong to this community. Every single person who has walked through that door, placed an order, or just shared what we’re doing with someone else, you are the reason these numbers exist.

We’re not stopping here though.

Our next goal is to be the #1 candle store in the entire country. And standing at #98, I don’t think that’s crazy to say anymore. But we need your help to keep climbing.

Okay so I have been meaning to write this post for a while now and I just kept putting it off because honestly every time I sat down to do it I just did not know where to start. But here we are and I am just going to go for it because I think it is long overdue and I really want you all to know the real story of how Wicksy came to be.

So let me take you all the way back to the beginning.

I was in my bachelor's program at the University of Cincinnati and one of my classes gave us an assignment to put together a marketing and business plan for an existing company. Pretty standard stuff right? Well I have never really been the kind of person who does things the standard way. I have always been creative and I have always had this deep passion for sensory experiences so instead of picking an existing company like everyone else I went to my professor and basically said hey what if I just built something from scratch instead.

The idea was a small candle brand. I sat down and conceptualized the whole thing. The scents, the mission, the branding, the feel of it. But the thing that was at the absolute center of everything from day one was this. I wanted to make products that were genuinely good for the people using them. Not just products that smelled amazing but products that you could feel confident bringing into your home and putting on your body without having to worry about what was actually in them.

Because here is something that I think about a lot and that I really want you to think about too. So many of the everyday products we use without a second thought are loaded with ingredients that have no business being anywhere near us. Toxins. Carcinogens. Phthalates. Allergens. Mutagens. Parabens. Sulfates. These are things that show up in candles, soaps, cleaners and body care products all the time and most people have absolutely no idea because nobody is talking about it. I knew from the very beginning that Wicksy was never going to be that. Not ever.

So we created what we call the Wicksy Standard. Every single product we make is completely free of toxins, carcinogens, phthalates, allergens, mutagens, parabens and sulfates. Every single one. No exceptions. No compromises. If it does not meet that standard it does not carry the Wicksy name and that is something I am incredibly proud of and fiercely protective of. You should never have to choose between a product that smells incredible and a product that is actually safe for your family and your home. At Wicksy you never have to make that choice.

That mission was there on day one and it is just as important to me today as it was when I was sitting in a classroom in Cincinnati putting together a business plan that was supposed to be about someone else's company.

My professor looked at everything I put together and told me the idea was solid and that my passion for it was obvious. And honestly that was the moment something clicked for me. Because it was not just an assignment anymore.

So I decided to actually do it.

I took a couple of months and set up a booth at Traders World to start doing some real research and development. I wanted to get my products in front of actual people and see what they thought. And what I found there genuinely moved me. People connected with the mission immediately. They saw what I was trying to do with ingredients that are good for you and good for the earth and they loved it. They got it. Moms would pick up a candle and ask me what was in it and when I told them they would just light up. That meant everything to me. And it gave me everything I needed to keep going.

From there Wicksy really started to take shape. The candles kept growing and the product line kept expanding because once people trusted what we were putting into our products they wanted that same standard applied to everything in their home. And I was more than happy to make that happen.

Eventually it was time to find a real home for everything we had been building. And I could not have dreamed up a more perfect one than the one we found.

We set up our flagship retail location at the Morrow Arts Center which is a former Little Miami school building right here in Morrow Ohio. And for me personally that is a full circle moment that I honestly still think about all the time. I am a Little Miami alumni and to be building something I am so proud of inside a building that was once such a big part of my life is something that is really hard to put into words. It just feels right in a way that not many things do.

We opened our doors in October of 2022 and we have been growing ever since.

Today Wicksy is so much more than candles. We make Hand and Body Lotion, Foaming Hand Soap, Liquid Dish Soap, Laundry Detergent and Laundry Boosters, All Purpose Cleaner, Whipped Sugar Soap, Room and Linen Sprays, Body Oil, Diffuser Oils, Wax Melts, Car Fresheners, Incense Sticks, Bar Soaps, with much more planned. And every single one of those products is held to the exact same Wicksy Standard that started this whole thing. 100% vegan. Cruelty free. Free of toxins, carcinogens, phthalates, allergens, mutagens, parabens and sulfates. Always.

That is not a selling point to us. That is just who we are.

This week at Wicksy, a lot is happening and I couldn't be more excited to share it with you.

First, something that genuinely means a lot to me. We've officially kicked off our spring fundraiser with the Little Miami Choir, and it runs through May 31st.

If you head to our website, you'll find a "Spring Fundraiser" tab right in the header menu where you can shop all your Wicksy favorites knowing that 50% of every purchase goes directly to their cause.

But here's the part that really got me. Sarah Baker, the choir director, has been a customer here for a while now, and her favorite fragrance in the shop is Orchids by The Sea. So we made it official. Every Orchids by The Sea purchase, in-store or online, is part of this fundraiser.

And on each one, there's a limited edition label with a QR code that takes you to a compilation of the choir's actual performances. I love that. You buy a candle, you light it, and somewhere in there you can listen to the kids sing. That's what this shop is supposed to feel like.

If you haven't smelled Orchids by The Sea yet, now is a really good reason to.

We're also launching bar soaps in the shop this week, and they'll be online by the end of the week. These are made with ingredients I actually feel good about: shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba seed oil, olive oil, vitamin E, vitamin A, sunflower oil, safflower oil, sesame seed oil, and more. Phthalate free fragrance, of course. Real, skin-loving stuff.

I've been wanting to bring these in for a while and I'm really happy with how they turned out. Come in and check them out.

And one more thing I've been looking forward to telling you about.
On April 22nd, we're launching a brand new fragrance called Where The Wildflowers Are.

It's inspired by European gardens, the kind of places that feel sun-warmed and a little wild all at once. Notes of lemongrass, bergamot, orange blossom, rose, honey, amber, musk, and cedar.

It's floral but it's got depth. I think you're going to love it.

It's April Fool's Day and I promise this is not a joke.

Bundle of Joy is officially here and it might be one of my favorite nostalgic scents we've ever made at Wicksy.

It's inspired by baby powder. That soft, clean nostalgic smell that just makes you stop and breathe for a second. I layered in citrus, rose, violet, and orange blossom to give it some life, and groudned it all with a little cedar. But at the heart of it, it's that warm, powdery comfort that feels like the beginning of something really good.

We made this one with baby showers, gender reveal parties, and new parents in mind. But honestly? It's also just a beautiful everyday fragrance. You don't need a reason. The smell is enough.

Is it a boy? Is it a girl? Who cares. It's a Bundle of Joy!

Laundry Scent Boosters are here.

Your clothes should smell as good as your home does. Our newest launch is finally on shelves and online, and honestly I'm really proud of this one. Toss one to three tablespoons into the drum before you load, and let the rest happen on its own. Mineral-based, fragrance-forward, and formulated with natural sea salt and baking soda so they neutralize odors at the source instead of just covering them up. The fragrance is designed to actually bond with your fabric and last through the wash. Phthalate-free, safe for all water temperatures, and compatible with HE and standard machines.

We have a new neighbor!!!

This week on Level 0, right here on our floor, Jesters Morrow is joining the building and I could not be more excited to welcome them. If you or someone you love is into Pokemon, One Piece, Magic, Lorcana, Warhammer 40k, or really anything in the collectible card and gaming world, this is about to be your new favorite stop.

Their soft opening kicks off tomorrow with hours running Thursdays from 4pm to 9pm, Fridays from noon to 11pm, Saturdays from noon to 9pm, and Sundays from noon to 6pm. Please give them the warmest welcome when you see them. This community knows how to show up for new neighbors and I hope you'll show up for them.

Easter is this Saturday, March 28th, starting at 10am.

Bring the family. There will be an egg hunt with prizes at select stores throughout the building, the Easter Bunny will be hopping around, and Mexi-Q Food Truck will be set up in the parking lot. At Wicksy, we will be offering complimentary drinks and treats all day from 10am to 6pm. It is going to be a really good time and we would love to see you here this Saturday.

Bundle of Joy drops April Fools Day.

I promise this one won't make you gag. Our newest scent is called Bundle of Joy and it is exactly what it sounds like. The warm, familiar, unmistakable fragrance of baby powder. Nostalgic in the best way. It fits right into our clean and fresh line and I already know it is going to find a home at baby showers, reveal parties, and on shelves for people who just want to feel that kind of cozy.
