to turn what has been given
into something that matters
to make meaning from loss
wisdom from experience
and light from what once felt dark
to become more fully ourselves
without forgetting one another
to take what is fragile and passing
and
for a little while
to be here to become
who we were quietly becoming
all along
not by leaving the world behind
but by giving something of ourselves to it
perhaps this is the mystery
we are not here
to keep what we are given
we are here
to transform it
and leave behind
a little more beauty
than we found
that makes being here
all the more worthwhile
