After a long winter and a couple job changes I'm finally back in the saddle of my life. The winter railfanning didn't happen like it normally does but it did allow me time to explore in other ways. This brings me to the small town of Dumont, MN the home of Dick Bremer, the voice of the Minnesota Twins for many years. Dumont was born during the construction of the Fargo and Southern Railroad, whose crews were trekking across the plains and laying the track in 1884. They were met by a French hunter who helped supply the workers with food as they worked; his friendliness and hunting abilities were so much appreciated that the railroad officials named the town in his honor. Steam engines brought with them enough settlers to warrant the establishment of a small business district, and on April 1, 1885, Dumont was platted. While the railroad was removed in the early 1980's you can still see much of the railbed.
