Fun Fact Of The Day: Donna Fargo is also from Mount Airy North Carolina. She grew up in Slate Mountain a few miles outside of town. "JEKS" the man who painted the Andy Griffith mural, also painted the Donna Fargo Mural! Very talented young man! Most of you may know Donna Fargo from her hit song, "Happiest Girl In The Whole USA" She had several back-to-back number one hits in the '70's She is still putting out new music and doing big things!! Today, we remember Emmett Forrest, born September 3, 1927, a cherished figure in Mount Airy history and the founder of the Andy Griffith Museum.

Emmett’s lifelong friendship with Andy Griffith was rooted in the same hometown, shared memories, and a deep appreciation for the people and stories that made Mount Airy special. His vision helped preserve that connection for generations, creating a place where fans and visitors could celebrate Andy’s remarkable legacy in comedy, Broadway, film, television, and recording.

Emmett understood that Andy’s story was more than a career, it was a story of friendship, family, hometown roots, and a journey that began in Mount Airy and reached audiences around the world.

Through the museum and his dedication to preserving these memories, Emmett helped ensure that future generations could experience and appreciate the remarkable life and legacy of his lifelong friend.

Today, we honor Emmett Forrest for the lasting mark he made on Mount Airy and for helping keep the story of Andy Griffith alive. Thank you, Emmett!
