Before there were fireworks… there were men willing to risk everything.
This Fourth of July, I can’t help but think about Thomas Jefferson, who penned the immortal words of the Declaration of Independence, and John Adams, who fought tirelessly to secure our independence.
Though they became fierce political rivals, they never stopped loving America. And in one of history’s most remarkable moments, both men seemed to cling to life with extraordinary determination until July 4, 1826—the 50th anniversary of the Declaration they helped create. Within hours of one another, they passed from this world, as if their final wish was to see America reach that golden milestone.
Whether by providence or sheer force of will, it’s a powerful reminder that their lives were forever intertwined with the birth of our nation.
As we gather with family, watch fireworks, and fly Old Glory, let’s remember that freedom was purchased by the courage and sacrifice of generations of Americans.
May we never take it for granted. May we always be worthy of it.
Happy Independence Day. God bless America. 🇺🇸 Carey
