I inspect the vintage piece, dust the item, look for blemishes and scratches. I then look to the web for information on pricing and historical background. I come to an agreement on what to charge after seeing what others charge. My price is generally in the middle. I look for an appropriate shooting place with a white background if at all possible. I design the set. I re-shoot. Then it is off to P

icMonkey where I edit and re-size the photo. I think about the background story. Who did the piece belong to? Where did I find it? Can I recall a story about the owner that will move a younger person to buy the item? I tell stories that move people to buy, you know. I write about the item. I list the item and watch the listing to see if others like it, too. When the item sells, my husband and I pack it up carefully so the item arrives safely and soundly to the destination. I miss some of the pieces and refer back to the photograph of the item to recall the piece. I then return to the barn and look for another piece. I can see a little more space in the barn where old items have moved out, really. How about you? How did you get started in vintage?

This mourning dove decoy was carved by Bayou Lafourche wood carver Russell Danos. This bird was carved from tupelo gum and hand painted in oils.
