Hey there! My name is Emily and I’m thrilled to join the Cleary’s Coven! 🖤My favorite genres are fantasy, thrillers, and romances, but I have been loving lit-fic and horror recently as well. Anything moody with lots of yearning has my heart. When I’m not reading or book journaling, I’m hanging out with my husband, beagle, and two cats, probably planning my next tattoo. Hi everyone! I’m McKenzi, one of Cleary’s newest booksellers! For as long as I can remember, I have been an avid reader. My first love is fantasy, and I’m a sucker for anything with gothic elements. I also enjoy poetry, horror, and sci-fi! Outside of the bookstore, I’m an EC Teacher with a passion for literacy. I truly believe there is a book out there for everyone, and I am so excited to help discover what that book is for you!

Get to know the dynamic duo who have teamed up to make all of your dreams come true: Michelle and Alison✨

✌️ My name is Michelle Yow, and I own Black Sheep Coffee, currently a cute lil green Japanese van turned coffee bar! I’m a native Charlottean and have been a Mount Holly resident for 6 years. I started working in the coffee industry in 2015 and have done just about every job you can do in a coffee shop, including making more avocado toast than I can count. I remember coming into Cleary’s Bookstore when it first opened and feeling so excited that our little town had such an amazing new addition! Plus, sweet Seamus was sleeping on his bed by the register, so we knew it was a great place. At that time, I wasn’t trying to open a coffee shop myself, but once I did, I knew we needed to collab with Cleary’s, which of course started out as small popups for different events and has now become this exciting new project!

👋Hi, I’m Alison, owner of Cleary’s Bookstore. I feel like I’ve been waiting years for this day to come (that picture was taken in 2024, y’all!) and I am so excited to be opening a space with my favorite coffee shop. When I opened the bookstore in 2023, after years of working in independent bookstores and in publishing for PRH, I knew I wanted to create a space for readers to celebrate their love of books and share in the joys of reading. A place for young readers to cultivate a lifelong love of reading. I wanted a progressive and inclusive store where readers would find themselves and their stories on the shelves. It’s been such an honor to build just that here in Mount Holly. There was only one thing missing: the square footage for more people to gather, hang, and spend their days at the bookstore! Opening the larger store with Michelle and Black Sheep Coffee feels like putting that final puzzle piece into place for our community. We will get to welcome more readers, host more in-store programming (storytimes anyone?!), and invite y’all to sit and stay awhile with the good book that you discovered. I can’t wait!
