The need is critical AND you can help. We are hosting a mobile drive on Tuesday, Aug 18 from 1:30-6p at Art Reach! Walk in donors welcome.

Michigan blood donors are needed. 🩸

Blood can reach some trauma patients before they arrive at the hospital, helping care begin sooner after a serious injury.

But that blood has to be there before the emergency happens.

Versiti had about 15,000 fewer donation appointments during June and July. As summer winds down and Labor Day approaches, eligible Michigan donors are encouraged to schedule in the coming days to help strengthen the blood supply for local patients.

We are deeply saddened to learn that Pat Herron died on Aug. 3. Pat was a life-long supporter of poetry and creativity. When Pat’s husband, Russ, died, she established a fund at the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation that has been the primary financial support of the Wellspring Literary Series. Pat was a regular attendee at the Wellspring events, and was always an advocate for poetry. Each year 4 poetry reading events are presented at Art Reach in partnership with the CMU English department and coordinated by Robert Fanning. Pat will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her spirited character. Memorial contributions may be made to the Russ Herron fund at the MPACF — ensuring the continuation of the Wellspring event in perpetuity.

We provide an abundance of programming in tandem with the local schools. We also have our own line-up of incredible art programming. When one area suffers, all areas suffer.

Don‘t Cut What Works. That's not a feeling. That's a 2025 National Endowment for the Arts research finding. 📊

Schools with arts education see fewer disciplinary infractions. They also see improved attendance. The connection between arts programming and school climate is documented, replicated, and consistent.

Yet arts education is perpetually first on the chopping block when budgets tighten — and this year, so is the agency that produced this very research. The President‘s FY27 budget calls for the closure of the NEA, and the House Appropriations Committee has called for a 35 percent cut in NEA funding for FY27. Meanwhile, that same budget would cut federal education investment from $6 billion to $2 billion by consolidating 17 programs into a single grant.

Five specific funding streams support arts education in schools nationwide — and all five are at risk.
