Team Dark Side Crappie Co. ran over to Lake Jacksonville Illinois, and fished with Springfield Crappie Club-Springfield IL. Having never been there we called in a favor to a good buddy Mr. Jim Lucas for information. He’d never been, but he knew a guy. He put me in touch with Mr. Ron West. I met with Mr. West and had a good conversation about the lake and what the fish were doing, and where he’d had some recent success. We knew it was going to be a day full of sorting through hundreds of short fish to find 7 decent ones. Ultimately we ran 4.01lbs across the scales. Not good enough to cut a check, but it got us one tournament closer to the classic! We caught fish with every technique we tried. But, we found our best bite was on the TOPHAT Jigs small fry in the Hilltopper color. Paired with the Power Fishing LLC: Home of Todd Huckabee Rods 15’ Ghost, and spooled with K9 Fishing Products 20lb Silk Braid.
