Info to consider after last night's hellacious storms:
*Please try to be kind and patient with emergency staff and insurance agents and adjusters. They are overwhelmed with the volume of losses and want to get to you as soon as possible.
*If your home was affected, take immediate steps to try and mitigate your damages by getting a tarp on the house as quick as possible (it’s looking like no rain in forecast til the weekend, but no telling when repair can start, so take mitigation measures ASAP)which is great news).
*Be wary of out-of-town storm chasers, and DO NOT give any money to any contractor up front.
*If your personal property was affected, try to take some photos of your stuff now to help evaluate - don’t just dispose of it without some photo proof, especially if it’s of higher value.
*Hang on to receipts if you stayed elsewhere.
*If your power is out and your food may spoil, take photos of your food in your deep freezer and fridge, too! This may be something insurance covers based on time with no power.
Thanks, Kelly Hill Rediger for the helpful reminders. It's so hard to think of this kind of stuff when in the middle of it, so hopefully this helps some of those who were affected.
