87 days is a long time to stare at the same four walls.
Long enough to miss home in a way I didn’t know was possible. Long enough to miss bedtimes, Target runs, my own kitchen, and simply being in the same room as my son. Long enough to learn that so many of the things I once called “ordinary” were actually gifts.
I wouldn’t choose those 87 days. And I won’t pretend I came out of them untouched.
But God met me there. In the fear. In the loneliness. In prayers that weren’t answered the way I begged Him to answer them. In nurses who walked through the door at exactly the right moment. In Scripture when I needed something true to hold onto.
And little by little, He taught me:
Hold your plans loosely.
Hold your people tightly.
Don’t rush past the ordinary.
Being afraid doesn’t mean you don’t have faith.
You don’t need strength for the whole road today.
And God is still good when your circumstances are not.
A year later, I’m still learning these things. I’m still healing from those days, too.
But I hope I never forget what that hospital room taught me about the life I get to live outside of it. 🤍
What has a hard season taught you that you don’t want to forget?
