In February 1982, John and Helen Martin moved their family from Pennsylvania to Tennessee. John and Helen shared a vision for a family-owned and operated business. With a love for growing things, they began with one greenhouse to grow vegetable plants in order to sell produce locally. Over the next few years, more greenhouses were added, and they started growing and selling bedding plants. They pu
rchased a piece of property and became a full-service garden center. In 2003, the Martins moved the store to a bigger lot on Broad Street which has expanded to cover nearly five acres. In 2009, their son Lester Martin took over the business with John remaining very involved. John still picks up plants, produce, and baked goods from our local vendors. The Martin family continues to grow petunias and mums on the family farm that are sold at the garden center. Our mission statement is: Each Martin’s Home & Garden employee will strive to be a blessing and a light to Murfreesboro and Middle Tennessee by providing each customer with exceptional service and top-quality products in a friendly shopping environment. Because of our high standards, we have customers that shop with us today that have been with us since the Martins first began selling products in 1982.
