Myrtle Beach City Council unanimously approved the renewal of the Downtown Municipal Improvement District (MID), which covers downtown and Ocean Boulevard areas of Myrtle Beach from 21st Avenue North to 11th Avenue South, including Broadway Street and the Arts & Innovation District. It was created in May 2022.

So, what does that mean?

The MID is a special district where commercial property owners contribute additional funding that stays in downtown and is used to support improvements such as:

✅ The Gold Caps Ambassador program, which helps keep downtown and Ocean Boulevard areas clean.
✅ Special events and marketing efforts that attract visitors and customers.
✅ Planning, research and projects that support continued revitalization and investment.

The goal is simple: create a cleaner, safer and more vibrant downtown that benefits businesses, residents and visitors. The MID is roughly half of the funding for the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance (MBDA).

The additional assessment only applies to commercial properties within the district. For example, a commercial property valued at $1 million would pay about $600 more per year.

🏡 Owner-occupied homes are NOT affected.

By law, all MID-generated money must be spent within the district or on projects that directly support the district.

The beach can wait. The deadline cannot. We get it.

Someone walks in with a suitcase and a to-do list. In town with family or friends for a few days, but the job followed them down. A few hours of work that have to get done before they can actually be present. Not from a hotel room on Ocean Boulevard. Not hunched over a table at a coffee shop while everyone else heads to the beach.

We see you. We also hate it for you.
