The Tim and Annie fundraiser! Times Two

I am sure many of you saw my post about trying to help Tim Bryant and his partner Annie. Well, this is it. We are auctioning off some of Tim's books and will gift them with 100% of the proceeds. The books are signed copies and Tim will add a note to the winner. Each book will have a reserve bid of approximately twice retail. (This IS a fundraiser.) Annie has a serious health problem and it is causing them a great deal of financial stress. Please bid and give generously. Bids will be accepted as DM messages to the Dead Tree Dreams page.

The reserve bid on this title is $32

World Of Rivers
by Tim Bryant (Author) Format: Paperback
5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars (5)

Three generations torn apart by time and currents, spread from the Philippine Islands in World War II to an unplanned stop along the Mississippi chitlin circuit to a true World of Rivers that brings everything together that has fallen apart. The Big Easy, half-truth and half-illusion, proves that life is bigger than we ever could have imagined, but it's never particularly easy.

WORLD OF RIVERS is unlike any book I have ever written. Perhaps it is most like Constellations, for it is also a travelogue of sorts, a trip downriver in a metaphysical and sometimes physical sense. It is a three-generation tale of a family disconnected. It’s also about the things that connect us all.

The first part is based very loosely on my granddaddy’s experience as a young soldier in World War II Philippines. Loosely because the bones of the story are much his. I merely fleshed it out differently. At the end of the war, Corporal Clifton Grice comes back home and leaves Corporal Bluford Thorn to continue. I’ll talk more about the specifics of this part of the story later.

Parts two and three unfolded slowly and majestically, like the Mississippi River that they follow. Part three came in a flash of inspiration, a complete surprise to me. Four led me to its dramatic conclusion in a way I had not prepared for. I was truly being pulled along by the currents. The ending thrilled me, not only giving the characters a chance to follow their own threads, but to pull those threads together in a great tapestry. And it even handed me the title.

What else could I ask for?

EXCITING NEWS!

This year's Dead Tree Dreams Back-to-School Bash and Book Sale will be extra-special! Why, you ask?

Because we are partnering with a new local business (drumroll, please! 🥁)... Owyn's Pink Lemonade!

Owyn is a 10-year-old entrepreneur who launched his lemonade business earlier this summer. He'll be here with his signature blend of tart-and-sweet pink lemonade. (Sr. and I have been frequent customers!) So come by and enjoy an ice-cold cup of pink refreshment while you shop the sale.

The sale kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. Owyn's hours will be announced next week.

There are very few circumstances under which we would share a post from Mr. Beck. This one qualifies.

Even if we weren't book sellers, we are still book lovers and book collectors, and what Anthropic and the other AI evil geniuses are doing is beyond our comprehension. So we find ourselves in the unenviable position of sharing this post and vehemently joining with Mr. Beck in encouraging everyone to BUY THE PHYSICAL BOOK!

If you buy it from us, hallelujah! If not, just as good. But PLEASE BUY PHYSICAL BOOKS!

And when the AI folks come asking to buy them, tell them to go jump in a lake.

Congratulations Art By Amy Bridges!

Amy was one of the first artists to join our DTD vendor family, and we love seeing her work recognized as the masterpiece it is.

Her bookmarks, hand-painted in her distinctive style, were one of our best-selling items at the store. These days, her work can be found on her website. Check her out!

I'm excited to share that **Peacock in Bloom** has officially been entered into the Etsy Design Awards! 🦚✨

As part of the competition requirements, the tapestry must remain listed in my Etsy silk shop and on my website throughout the judging period. However, it has been **reserved for the competition and is not available for purchase until judging has concluded.**

While you can still view the listing, it cannot be sold until the Etsy Design Awards are over.

This piece has been one of the most meaningful works I've ever created, and it's an honor to have it representing my shop. Thank you for all of your encouragement and support—it truly means the world to me. I'll be sharing updates as I hear more, and I'll let everyone know as soon as *Peacock in Bloom* is available again.

"The Worst Detective in Texas: A Hollis Waller Mystery"
by Tim Bryant (Author) Format: Paperback
Hollis Waller has written four novels. None of them made him rich, famous, or particularly happy. Now he runs a private investigations office in a dying East Texas strip mall, between a v**e shop and a church that believes in amplified worship at all hours of the business day.

He is, by most measurable standards, the wrong man for the job.

When Vivian Bell — widow of one of Loblolly's most admired citizens — walks into his office asking him to find her late husband's missing memoir, Hollis assumes it's a simple case of a family managing its reputation. He is wrong about this, as he will be wrong about most things, until being wrong in public long enough accidentally becomes useful.

What Carver Bell wrote in secret before he died contains the kind of truth that a county buries carefully and defends with everything it has: old money, old silence, and men who have spent decades convincing themselves that survival and innocence are the same thing.

"The Worst Detective in Texas" is a literary mystery about storytelling, witness, and what happens when the people edited out of a place's official history refuse to stay gone. It is also, despite everything, frequently funny.

This is Senior.

Goofy Boy-Cat has been found. It seems he may never have left our carport and was located hiding in the pile of junk waiting to go to the dump this Saturday in the back of my truck. He was hungry, thirsty, and WAY freaked out, but he is fine. I repeat, Atticus is in the house!!!

ATTENTION! ATTICUS IS MISSING!

This is NOT a drill! Not a joke, or a sales pitch.

Our beloved tuxedo boy got out of the house somehow yesterday, probably between 7 and 9 p.m. He often tries to escape, but even if he gets out the door, we always know he's there, and we always catch him and put him inside.

We did not know he was missing until this morning, when he did not come into our bedroom for his usual morning pets and snuggles. We looked in all his usual sleeping spots in the house, calling his name, and he did not come. He is such an attention ju**ie that he would not stay hidden if he thought he could get loved on, so we are sure he is not hiding or sleeping anywhere inside.

I looked in the house that's under construction next door; no sign of him.

I put his bed and some food out on the porch by the front door, hoping he will smell them and find his way home. I keep thinking he is probably still in our neighborhood somewhere, but he might have wandered farther away. Senior drove around a while checking East Oak Lane and Tower Road; no luck.

Please be on the lookout and message us if you see him or take him in. He's such a sweetheart and such a 'people cat' that he'd go to just about anyone, especially if he was scared and hungry.
