Hey, you! We have had a lot of new followers recently- thanks for the follow! What a great opportunity to introduce ourselves (even if we are a little camera shy).

We are The Real McCoy Honey & Pottery, a combined honey shop and pottery showroom. Our small business first opened on May 25th, 2024, but our stories begin much earlier (as all good stories do).

Our space is the combination of our two pursuits - The Real McCoy Honey (Matthew’s), and (Michelle’s). Somewhere along the way, we thought, “Why stop there?”—and now we’re lucky enough to share our shop with eleven other amazing local small businesses.

We are Michelle & Matt. You can find us (and sometimes Sally) in Nags Head, offering high-quality goods in a relaxed environment. We offer raw, unfiltered honey, whipped honey products, hand-poured beeswax candles, local art pieces as well as showcase the pottery of seven different ceramicists.

Our adventure continues as we will reach our two year shop anniversary this upcoming May - wow! Thank you to all of you along the way who have been a part of our shop and have tagged along for the journey. .studios , Sandy West Fiber Arts and many more!

Help our business grow by liking, following and sharing this post. Also, enjoy our little selves photos- we hopped on the trend. 🙂

It is almost swarm season! Ever come across a bundle of buzzing bees like this? Please do NOT call the exterminator! Shoot us a message! This is a natural part of the honey bee life cycle. When a colony has outgrown its home, or needs to leave for any reason, they will gather, surround their queen and swarm. During this process, most of the worker bees crowd around the queen, and some bees scout out surrounding areas to search for their new home.

A swarm is the perfect opportunity for your local beekeeper to catch some new bees and give them a home. So - keep your eyes out for any black masses - usually found just above eye level, in shrubs, trees or even sometimes in unexpected places like the eaves of your garage.

Today we’re featuring Lauren Evans of on our feed ✨

Lauren is one of the talented local ceramic artists featured in our shop and showroom. Her vibrant, joyful pieces instantly bring a smile to anyone who sees them.

“I believe handmade art tells a story, offering a glimpse into the heart of the artist,” Lauren shares. A full-time ceramic artist based in South Nags Head, she was inspired during her international travels, where she met artisans creating beautiful work despite very limited resources. That experience led her to start a humble studio at home.

Each piece is carefully handmade at her dining room table. Lauren creates ceramics that are both functional and thought-provoking — pieces meant to be used, enjoyed, and talked about. Find some of these pretties in our shop located in Surfside Plaza- in Nags Head.

Now featuring the wonderful . Ruth is one of the talented local ceramicists featured in our shop and showroom.

Ruth is based on Hatteras Island, NC. She graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, then became a resident artist at Kinnakeet Clay on Hatteras Island. She is now an independent studio artist, focusing on functional stoneware pottery as well as ceramic sculpture inspired by the coastal ecosystem of Cape Hatteras. She has completed ceramic artist residencies at Penland School of Craft and the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts. When she is not making pottery, you can find her in the garden, surfing, or enjoying a good cup of coffee.

If you don’t already, give her a follow! Photographed pieces are some that we currently have on display and for sale in the shop.✨

We’d like to highlight one of the artists represented in our shop and showroom, Sandy West.

A second generation hand weaver, Sandy’s been weaving on floor looms in her home studio in Manteo for more than two decades. Sandy enjoys dyeing, botanical printing and shibori making. She’s been a member of the Outer Banks Fiber Guild since 2005 and has shown her work in local galleries and crafts fairs.

Her work is both delicate and complex and we have absolutely adored being able to enjoy it in our storefront. For a short period of time, Sandy’s stunning hand-woven scarves and runners are 15% off. Photo 1.- Handwoven Shibori Scarf, Indigo dyed, Photo 2.- Handwoven Table Runner, Natural Linen and Hand-dyed Cotton, Photo 3., Sandy’s loom and home studio.
