The Golden Basket

The Golden Basket The Original Nantucket Lightship Basket in Gold She has designed round and oval nesting baskets, flower baskets, picnic baskets and many more.

In 1977 Glenaan Elliott Robbins designed the first gold Nantucket Lightship Basket in miniature for her store on Straight Wharf. They are designed with meticulous attention to detail. The handles swing and the hinges work, allowing the lids to open to reveal a miniature penny inside. The scrimshaw on covered baskets is done by hand with either black or multicolored inks. Baskets are designed in Platinum, 18k gold, 14k gold, Sterling Silver or set with Precious Stones and Pearls. All original baskets are signed and dated. Glenaan and The Golden Basket appreciate the support and friendship of its many devoted customers over the years, and we look forward to the years of continued friendship that lie ahead! Next year, in 2027, The Golden Basket will celebrate our 50th anniversary! 50 years of Nantucket tradition, iconic island history, and original fine jewelry. In 1977, Glenaan designed the first miniature basket in gold. Since then, these charms have carried the legacy of the island throughout generations, and have represented some of the most meaningful island memories for so many people. To help us celebrate our 50th anniversary, we’re asking our valued clients to share with us your memories of The Golden Basket - it could be a memory of your first purchase, a visit to one of our shops on Main Street or Straight Wharf, a meaningful gift and opening our signature pink box, or a special conversation with Glenaan that stayed in your mind for years :) even just a photo or a memory of the island from the 70’s! Please send us a message or share a video so that we can collect these memories and hold them dear to us as we celebrate this huge milestone!

An original Golden Basket design — the kidney shaped lightship basket. Designed by Glenaan in the late 80’s as a pregnant mama with 2 little ones. She needed a basket that fit her lifestyle and gave her free hands to keep up with all the demands of being a busy mom running her business. Designed to be worn on a long strap and curved to rest at the hip, it’s a unique style that is classic, cool, and will never go out of style!
