The Valheim board game smashes crowdfunding goals on first day

Build a base, prepare your team, and fight a boss within a two hour play session!

Valheim is a fun crafting survival game to play with a group of pals set in the Viking afterlife, and the board game adaptation is off to a great start. On Tuesday, a crowdfunding campaign for Valheim: The Board Game went live on Gamefound, and it already hit 300% funding. There are no stretch goals for the game, as the developer is choosing to deliver a complete, core experience — but there are some fun goodies that players can pledge for, along with the game itself.

A new game available for pre-order!

Everyone knows that beavers are experts in building dams, but this is difficult and risky work. Show that you are the smartest beaver and help our friends in this construction! Do not let the dam collapse! The players will have to work together to build a dam using logs and beavers, but the one who is most skillful will be the great winner. When rolling the dice, the player determines which items to use and how to place them on the dam. To win the game, you need to place all the logs in your reserve before the other players.

A Merchant? A Kingdom? No... A Photographer in Space!

"Cosmolancer" is an exciting evolution of Reiner Knizia’s classic design, blending the tactical depth he's known for with a fresh, futuristic theme. The concept of freelance photographers in space adds a playful, imaginative twist to the core mechanics that fans of his earlier games will recognize. The familiar elements of placing tokens and tiles on a 6×5 grid return, but the theme of photographing the cosmos gives it a unique flavor that could draw in both newcomers and long-time enthusiasts of his work.

The introduction of different camera token levels adds another layer of strategic depth, encouraging players to carefully balance the timing and placement of their tokens. Since the value of each row can fluctuate wildly due to both regular and special tiles, players will need to think several moves ahead to maximize their interstellar credits.

The comparison to previous versions like Kingdoms or Auf Heller und Pfennig highlights Knizia’s talent for taking familiar mechanics and presenting them in innovative ways. By transforming the game into something thematically distinct each time, he manages to keep the experience fresh, even for those who have played earlier iterations.

"Cosmolancer" is likely to appeal to both seasoned board gamers who appreciate Knizia’s mastery of elegant yet strategic gameplay and casual players drawn to the sci-fi theme. Would you be interested in exploring some strategies for optimizing tile and token placement, or comparing this version with its predecessors?

Maestro Media plans to bring the Bridge Constructor video game series into the tabletop format.

Bridge Constructor: Breaking Point challenges multiple players to see who is both smart and lucky enough to successfully guide the most vehicles across their bridges and earn the most victory points before time runs out.

On their turn, a player receives a hexagonal token and must choose whether to use it to build or strengthen their bridge by placing it on their board, or to move vehicles across the bridge. Vehicles are divided into four weight categories, each with its own victory point conditions and varying levels of difficulty.

While the game may initially seem like a straightforward puzzle about managing your own bridge, it introduces a competitive twist with event cards, which allow players to sabotage one another—like destroying a perfectly designed rival bridge.

The game accommodates 2 to 4 players, ages 10 and up, with playtime ranging from 30 to 45 minutes.

"An Ideal Society Under the Forest Canopy: Build, Grow, and Thrive in the Treetops!"

Once upon a time, writers, architects, bankers, merchants, botanists, and travelers came together to build the perfect society high in the forest canopy. They worked tirelessly and continue to do so, welcoming newcomers along the way. This is the premise of Tree Society, a new game from Next Move Games.

In Tree Society, players contribute to this treetop community by helping various guilds realize their plans, all while earning money and fame from selling fruits.

On their turn, a player discards one fruit card from their board, gaining coins equal to the total number of that fruit type on all players’ boards (including the discarded card). Players can then spend coins to buy guild cards from the communal market or upgrade those already on their board. Upgraded guild cards activate their effects based on their level, allowing players to trigger combos and earn victory points. Additionally, the player can use the effect of the discarded fruit card.

At the end of each turn, players discard all but two coins; some effects allow extra coins to be stashed in a personal chest for future use. The player then draws a fruit card from the communal supply and refills any empty spaces in the guild market.

Once a player completes all three levels of a guild card, it’s flipped over. The round in which any player completes their sixth guild marks the final round. The player with the most points wins.

To ensure varied gameplay, only four out of six guild groups are used each session.

Tree Society accommodates 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up, with games lasting 30–45 minutes.

The game box includes: a double-sided market board, 72 guild cards, 75 fruit cards, 12 tree markers, 4 player boards, 4 cardboard chests, 4 score markers, 35 coins, and a rulebook.

A deck-building game with tribal development!

Ares Games arrived at SPIEL 2024 with an exciting lineup, featuring Altay: Dawn of Civilization—a civilization-building game that combines deck-building with board play.

In the game's setting, tribes have long flourished at the heart of a vast continent, each developing unique cultures balanced between magic and technology and coexisting delicately with nature. But the arrival of outsiders has brought advanced technology, weaponry, and new lifestyles. Now, players must decide whether to embrace these influences or stay true to their traditions. Will you expand through conquest, focus on knowledge, or leave a legacy through monuments and tales of victorious battles? Each player, leading their own tribe, must choose their path.

The game unfolds on a board where four civilizations share a region divided into zones with varied landscapes and resources. Each civilization begins with a unique starting deck of special and basic cards, with slight differences in card quantities.

The interplay of deck-building and board play shapes your civilization’s growth. Playing cards allows players to gather resources (stone, metal, wood, and knowledge), settle new lands, build settlements, attack or defend territory, and more. Many cards gain power when players control specific regions. Resources from card effects and board actions can be spent to add new cards to a deck or purchase achievement cards that expand abilities and provide victory points.

Altay: Dawn of Civilization supports 2 to 4 players, ages 10 and up, with sessions lasting about 45 to 90 minutes.
