Repairs KR Bachelder Co. is a shop that specializes in the sale, rental and repair of violin-family instruments and bows. and Horst John.

Established in 1963 by Kenneth Bachelder Sr., the shop is now owned and operated by Linda Bachelder. We currently carry instruments and bows from such workshops as Ming Jiang Zhu, Bernd Dimbath, Eastman Strings, Jay Haide, Coda Bow Intl. We also carry fine vintage instruments by Frank Sindelar, Ernst Heinrich Roth, Amedee Dieudonne and H. Emile Blondelet. Please inquire as to current inventory and availability.

Happy New Year from all of us at KR Bachelder!

We hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season. As we begin 2026, we’re emailing all of our district teachers and rental customers to inform everyone of some important news. After over 60 years of the Bachelders serving the local stringed instrument community, we’re calling it a career. Effective June 1st, 2026, KR Bachelder Co. will be ending all shop operations at our Naperville location. It’s been an honor to be of service to our thousands of customers over the years, however it’s time for most of our staff to retire, slow down and enjoy life a little more.

In observance of the Christmas holiday season, our shop will be closed on Wednesday, December 24th, through Thursday, January 1st 2026. We will reopen at 10am on Friday, January 2nd. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at KR Bachelder Co.!

It's springtime which means it's sign-up time at our local school districts for summer and fall orchestra programs. Due to heavy sign-up scheduling, our Naperville shop will be closed this Saturday, May 11th. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 14th at 10 am. Please schedule your shop appointments accordingly. Beginning Tuesday, May 26th, we will be reinstating our normal business hours. Our regular business hours will be as follows:

Tuesday through Thursday - 10 am to 5 pm
Friday - 10 am to 4 pm
Saturday - 10 am to 2 pm

Beginning Tuesday, May 5th, KR Bachelder Co. will resume it's business operations on a limited, appointment-only basis. We will be accepting appointments between the hours of 10am and 4pm, Tuesday through Friday. Instrument pick-up and drop-off will be curbside during this period. In accordance with the statewide “shelter in place” decree, KR Bachelder Co. has suspended it’s business operations. The shop will remain closed until April 7th. Got tweed? In our continuing efforts to update our instrument case line, we're excited to offer something a little different, the Bio-S case line from German case and instrument manufacturer, GEWA. This oblong suspension case features a very stylish brown tweed cover, right down to the detachable music pouch. What really sets this case apart, however, is the material that the shell is made from, flax fiber. This natural, renewable plant fiber is bonded to form a very rigid and durable yet lightweight case material.
