Black children deserve to grow old.🤎
They deserve to make it their childhood.
They deserve to graduate high school.
Go to college, or not.
Fall in love.
Make mistakes.
Change their minds.
Become parents.
Become grandparents.
Grow into the adult they were meant to be become.
Lately, we’ve been seeing too many black children and teenagers lose their lives far too soon — through su***de, violence, unexpected deaths, and circumstances that leave families, grieving, searching for answers, and asking for justice.
And I don’t want us to become numb to it.
Because behind every headline is someone’s baby.
Someone’s child.
Someone’s little sibling.
Someone’s best friend.
Someone’s future.
Black children deserve more than survival. They deserve a future.
That means we have to keep talking about black youth mental health. We have to check in even when they say they’re “fine”. We have to create spaces where they can be vulnerable without being labeled dramatic disrespectful, weak, or ungrateful.
And when our children are lost, their lives deserve to be taken seriously!
This September, let’s not JUST talk about su***de prevention.
Let’s talk about protecting our children, listening to our children, supporting our children, and fighting for our children.
Because black children deserve to grow old.🤎
If you are a young person, you know is experiencing a mental health or su***de crisis, call or text 988 in the US for support.✨
