"Golden Age Steinway." You've probably heard the phrase — usually from someone who doesn't sell new Steinways, doesn't have a Steinway dealer agreement, and is often not even based here.
Here's the question to ask them: "Are you an authorized Steinway dealer?"
If the answer is no, everything else they tell you about that piano — its age, its "character," its story — is marketing. It's designed to make you feel like you're getting something better by getting something older. You're not buying a Steinway at that point. You're buying a story about one.
We'd rather you buy a piano that lasts than a story that sounds good in the moment. That's the whole reason this post exists.
