Danielle was packaging orders yesterday and came up to me with the biggest smile. She said she had to tell me that she packaged an order and the note included was in ALL CAPS “THANK YOU FOR BRINGING BACK THE ORIGINAL SIZE.” And she told me that the customer ordered 20.

And that made me smile so much. I told Danielle it’s been like this for 13 years. I know how special this calendar is to so many of you. I’ve read all the DMs and comments and emails. They all mean a lot to me. And they keep me going.

And I’m so so grateful for every single order from each of you. I hope and pray the 2027 Hymn Calendar will be a blessing to all the people that have one.

The high today is Nashville is down to 88 degrees and so now I’m thinking all fall! lol! And so naturally when I think about fall, I start thinking about pumpkins and turkeys and then I thought of this artwork that I simply adore. So I thought I’d share and let you know that all of our Thanksgiving and Christmas products are now online!

The thing I love the most about our hymn greeting cards is that I wrote the history of each hymn on the back of every card.

You remember lawn chairs and a tent and the cool breeze.

You remember how at home you felt on the pew you always sat on.

You remember the saints that have gone before you when you sing

You remember and you never want to ever forget.

One of the many, many reasons I love to sing hymns is that they are poems that you can sing and they're not elevated enough so that it takes you days to process it. You can process it while you're singing. And I love that, that it gives you something to chew and mull on.

And the imagery that hymns use to describe your faith, like how they use words to describe your faith, to describe what it is, the lift to describe how God is using beautiful words.

You need to know this hymn: His Eye is on the Sparrow

This is such a sweet story and I am so excited to tell you!!!

It all started in the spring of 1905 when Civilla Martin and her husband, Walter, were visiting friends in Elmira, New York. Their hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle, were the kind of people who seemed to glow with quiet faith. Mrs. Doolittle had been bedridden for nearly 20 years, and her husband was a disabled man who ran his business from a wheelchair.

Civilla tells the story:

“One day my husband commented on their bright hopefulness and asked them for the secret of it. Mrs. Doolittle’s response was simple: ‘His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

The beauty of this simple expression of boundless faith gripped the hearts and fired the imagination of Dr. Martin and me. The hymn ‘His Eye Is on the Sparrow’ was the outcome of that experience.”

She sat down that very night and wrote the lyrics to a hymn. She mailed it to Charles Gabriel the next day, and the melody we know today was born.

Decades later, during the Civil Rights movement, this hymn found new life as an anthem of hope and comfort, reminding those facing unthinkable trials that they were not alone.

I like to imagine Mrs. Doolittle, sitting by a window, watching the world pass by, still singing, still believing, still trusting in the same God who counts every feather and knows every heart.

I think that is so important to remember in this moment in time for us right now. HIs eye is on the sparrow. And I know He watches me. 💛

The 2027 hymn calendar is STACKED UP this year. All the kids are saying, “it slaps” and it does.

September comes in with “Great is Thy Faithfulness” one of the best and most popular hymns ever. I said the lineup was stacked and I wasn’t lying!

Martin Luther’s “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” had to be for October, because on October 31, 1517, Luther pinned his 95 Theses to the doors of the Castle Church in Wittenberg Germany, which started the Protestant Reformation.

“Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” I felt was so fitting for November, especially for us here in the US where we celebrate Thanksgiving.

And for December the last hymn for the calendar is Charles Wesley’s magnificent “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”.
