Intaglios aren’t just beautiful, they’re thousands of years of history in the palm of your hand. This technique dates all the way back to Ancient Mesopotamia, where carved stones were used as seals to sign documents and mark ownership. The art spread through ancient Egypt and ancient Greece, but it truly flourished in ancient Rome. These gemstone carvings became symbols of power, identity, and status.
Centuries later, during the Renaissance, artists revived the craft, collecting and recreating ancient designs with incredible precision. What started as a practical tool became wearable art, detailed worlds carved into stone instead of on top of it.
And that’s the magic of intaglios. A beautiful art and tradition that’s survived for over 4,000 years.
