The list of 2025's most challenged books was released this morning as part of ALA's State of America's Libraries Report.

ALA documented 487 attempts to censor books at libraries, schools, and universities in 2025. The reasons most commonly cited for censorship were: false claims of illegal obscenity for minors; inclusion of LGBTQIA+ representation; covering topics of race, racism, social justice, and diversity; and presenting political or religious views with which the challengers disagreed.

Of the 4,235 unique titles that were challenged or banned in 2025, these are the top 11 most frequently targeted for censorship:

1) "Sold" by Patricia McCormick
2) "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky
3) "Gender Q***r: A Memoir" by Maia Kobabe
4) "Empire of Storms" by Sarah J. Maas
5) "Last Night at the Telegraph Club" by Malinda Lo (tie)
5) "Tricks" by Ellen Hopkins (tie)
7) "A Court of Thorns and Roses" by Sarah J. Maas
😎 "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess (tie)
😎 "Identical" by Ellen Hopkins (tie)
😎 "Looking for Alaska" by John Green (tie)
😎 "Storm and Fury" by Jennifer L. Armentrout (tie)

Every year, the American Library Association compiles a list of the books most frequently targeted by censors based on reports from the field and media coverage.

I have rarely been this excited about a collection that comes into the store. The Man of Bronze (Doc Savage) has arrived. Yes we have a few of the mass market paperbacks, but these are the original pulp magazines from the 1930s and 40s. If you look closely enough you will also see an Avenger and The Shadow (who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men). The ones you see on the rafters are just a portion of the ones coming in, that have not been processed.
The reason I’m geeking out is that when I was young, it was the Bantam Doc Savage books that really got me into collecting books, purely for collecting. I still have a complete set of those wonderful paperbacks with the James Bama rendering of The Man of Bronze.
The collection we have are on consignment, so there is no guarantee how long they will be available. So, if you’re interested come on by.
