was founded in 1988 by Karin Eaton to distribute Pierre Picard's extraordinary handforged iron lighting and furniture. Styles ranging from Neo Gothic to Contemporary are represented in the over 600 items in the collection. Though stylistically diverse, the work of the Picard Atelier is readily identifiable. The mastery of old world techniques is revealed in the unique balance of strength and grace
, movement and stability, whimsey and tradition. Following a 5 year apprenticeship in Paris, Pierre Picard opened the Picard Atelier in Normandy in 1966. He counts among his early achievements many restoration projects for buildings of historic significance including the Casino at Deauville and many private residences along the Champs Elysee in Paris. His personal style attracted the attention of interior designers and architects and his collection continued to expand. In 1989 he was awarded the title of Maitre Artisan, representing the pinnacle of recognition by the French state. Today, Thierry Duboscq, Picard's son in law, continues these esteemed traditions as Master Blacksmith of the Picard Atelier, and has apprenticed his son, David, to secure the future of the forge. Picard's association with Karin Eaton began in 1985 when she discovered his work in Paris on a buying trip for her newly founded French antique store. Eaton's expertise in French was vital to their communication while her background in fashion provided an inspirational springboard for the design development and artistic direction of Ironware.
