Lady with a Past - Historically Inspired Art Dolls I created "Lady With a Past" as a result of my love of historic costuming and doll making. I wanted to create original pieces that were one of a kind.

I began my doll making journey about 30 years ago making antique reproduction porcelain dolls. I enjoyed this pursuit, especially re-creating the lavish costumes of the 19th century. However, I tired of simply copying something that had already been done. So, I began to sculpt my own dolls. Each doll is either based on a real person from history, or is a representation of someone who would have li

ved in the past. My favorite historical era is the Civil War, but I have made dolls from the 18th century, such as Marie Antoinette, up to the end of the 19th century. The dolls heads, shoulders, and arms to the elbow are sculpted of an air drying clay. The bodies are cloth. After the sculpting process is complete, I hand paint each doll with oil paints. Many of the wigs are hand-made, and I sew all the costumes using antique laces and fabrics if possible. Each doll that represents a true character from history comes with her own story. I create dolls in all sizes, from 12" to 28", and will accept commissions for special orders. The prices of the dolls vary, but normally range from $200 up to $1200 depending on the complexity of the costume, size, etc. I accept all major credit cards or personal checks.
