Whatcha upta Wednesday evening? The answer better be, "Pedals and Pints" with and SMBA - Singletrack Mountain Bike Adventures starting from the shop at 6:00.

Shorter days = you need a light, and "I'll be back before dark" is how people end up walking out. A solid rechargeable front light and a blinky out back turn a sketchy late finish into a non-event – and September's golden evenings are worth chasing right up to the edge.

ASPEN SEASON: how to see the gold without the gridlock.

For a few weeks every year, the aspens turn and half the Front Range drives up to look at them. Good for us, great for Ned, occasionally a traffic jam on the Peak to Peak. Here's how to actually enjoy it:

- GO EARLY OR GO LATE. Leaf-peeper rush is 11am–4pm. Dawn and dusk are quieter, and the low light through the aspens is when it's genuinely jaw-dropping anyway.
- GO MIDWEEK if you can. Saturday is a scene. Tuesday is a religious experience.
- GET ON A BIKE. The best aspen stands aren't roadside – they're up the trails and gravel roads where cars can't follow. This is the whole cheat code.
- TIME IT RIGHT. Peak is usually mid-to-late September up here, but it moves with the weather. Ask us – we watch it closely, for obvious reasons.

MECHANICS' CORNER: shoulder-season is when your drivetrain pays for a summer of abuse. Here's a 5-minute chain check.

A worn chain quietly eats your cassette and chainrings – the expensive parts. Catch it early and it's a cheap swap; ignore it and you're buying the whole drivetrain.

THE CHECK:
1. Get a chain wear tool (a few bucks, best money in your toolbox or swing by and we'll help you out). Drop it into the chain. Seats fully at 0.5? You're due. At 0.75? The cassette's probably going with it.
2. No tool? Shift to the big ring, grab a link at the 3 o'clock position, pull it away from the ring. A hair of movement is fine. See daylight nearly clearing a tooth? Cooked.
3. Running 12-speed? Those thinner chains wear faster and skip sooner – check more often.

WHEN TO BRING IT IN:
- Tool reads past 0.75 – let us check whether the cassette needs to go too, so a fresh chain isn't skipping on worn cogs.
- You genuinely can't remember the last time it was replaced. That's your answer.

Five minutes now saves a drivetrain later. Roll by and we'll take a look.

If the scavenger hunt has you thinking about WestMag, here's your tip: the zone rides completely differently in September. Cooler temps mean you can link the longer loops without cooking on the climbs, and the light after 5pm turns the whole place gold.

Newer to it? Start with the mellower loops close to town. Think Reroute, SüperVü, The Hobbits. Want the spicy stuff? Come talk to us – we'll draw you a map on a napkin and tell you where the good dirt is hiding.

This beast gave up the ghost a few years ago and still sits as a landmark on one of Ned's most popular trails. Do you know where to find the Grandfather Tree (RIP)?

If you do, look for a surprise hidden in that area and tag in a photo. First person to find it gets to keep it!

No-drop. All abilities. We'll show you the lines, the links, and the stuff you'd ride straight past if you didn't know it was there. That's the whole point – and it's why we've loved running these group excursions all summer.

Bring: a bike that works, water, and a layer for when the sun drops. If your bike is NOT in the working category, get it here early and we'll do our best to work a miracle or put yer butt on a demo before 6.

IT'S LABOR DAY! We're open at 9, then knocking off early to go ride (or grab a nap).

We'll closing at 4:00 today for the holiday. Plenty of time to swing by for a rental, a last-minute tune, or beta on where to point it, but get here before 4 if you need us.

If you're up here escaping the last gasp of Front Range summer: cooler mornings, tacky dirt, thinning crowds. Some of the best riding of the year is right outside the door. Go get it.

Get yer butt up here Wednesday (9/9) for a kickass group ride.

All summer we've been leading these to get folks familiar with WestMag and Ned's greatest singletrack, and they've grown longer and a little spicier each month. We've been partnering with the good folks to help fuel the scholarship fund and get some great za after the ride.

Whether you know Ned's trails cold or you've been meaning to check them out since June, roll with us. No-drop, no ego, no problem.

Wheels down 6:00 SHARP from the shop, Wednesday 9/9. You might want to bring a jacket – the days are noticeably shorter now, and that's kind of the point. September evening light in the high country is unreal.
