ALL FALL FESTIVAL POSTPONED TO 9/26 BECAUSE OF WEATHER

Friends, an apology firstly for bombarding you with emails this week. We try to keep communications to a slower pace, but with tomorrow's impending thunderstorms we are going to have to postpone our ALL FALL FESTIVAL to SEPTEMBER 26TH. We are truly sorry if this is an inconvenience for you, but out of concern for our vendors, volunteers, and you, our dear friends and guests, we think it is best to push back a couple of weeks. We hope you will join us then for some big fun and good fellowship. We've even got a few little extra surprises that should be ready by then, so don't miss it. Our updated poster is below, so share and share alike, friends. Our updated poster is below, so share and share alike, friends. We'll see you on the 26th, and don't forget to check our website berrycenter.org for more great events coming up, like visits from bestselling authors like Ethan Tapper Ethan Tapper and the Commonwealth's own 'Book Woman' herself.

And as a small consolation, The Bookstore at The Berry Center will be open as usual tomorrow from 10:00am-5:00pm and we welcome anyone who would like to drop by and say hello.

Friends, we cannot thank you enough for the kind words, remembrances, stories, and good feeling that have come to us in the mail, e-mail, and social media. All of these have been a comfort to us during this sad time, and we would be so happy to hear more of them.

As Mary said in our last video, we continue on in our work. We are still here every day to do what we can to spread the good word for our rural places. As she also noted, the family has elected for a small private funeral service, but we will be following up in the upcoming months with a big memorial to celebrate Wendell and his lifetime of good work. We promise to be in touch about that event as it comes together, and you should hear about it first from this mailing list.

Until then, we hope to offer a few more opportunities to be in community and celebrate Wendell and the good work. We hope that you will join us, friends, in carrying that good work ever forward into the future.

The first of these are our 2026 Wendell Berry Lecture ft. Dr. Ellen Davis on the 10th and our ALL Fall Festival (and Best Of Henry County Bake Off!) this coming Saturday, September 12, 11am-2pm EST.

We'd love to see you there for either or both. At ALL FALL We'll be sharing FREE copies of our 2026 AND 2027 ALL picks, including Wendell's The Unsettling of America, and sharing more about how you can bring this important book to your people and place. As importantly, we'll be in fellowship with one another and taking a little ease with our community, spending a little time shoring up the bonds of friendship and Membership, and taking some time to remember Wendell together as well. The food, art, games, and crafts will be great, and the company will be even better. More information on ALL FALL, our Best of Henry County Bake Off, and our lecture are attached here. Our immense gratitude, Friends, for your interest, your support, and your own good work.

As always, you can learn more at berrycenter.org or get in touch at [email protected]. Every good wish to you and yours from your friends at The Berry Center.

Friends, we just can’t thank you enough for your kindness and your generosity in this season, as the photos, the stories, the memories just keep rolling in from all over the world. So too has your support, not only financial but the offers of help, the investments of time and talent, all of it has been so powerful and moving. We will be thanking individually everyone who has contributed after Wendell’s passing, of course, but we also wanted to take a moment to talk about the good work here.

We have been blessed with a Membership which values the same agrarian spirit, the same work of the land that Wendell has written about taking up from his parents, and theirs, back further than anyone can remember, the work of good care for your people and your place. The support of this Membership has allowed us to carry on that good work here in this place, and to broadcast it into the world, sharing the results of our successes (and our failures!) with others who have picked up this effort and carried it forward in time in their own home places, and being shared with in return.

Today, as our friends at the Community Foundation of Louisville will tell you, is one of the biggest days for philanthropy in our region, and we are so thankful to them for organizing and building the excitement for local giving. If you live in our neck of the woods and have been thinking about how to honor the memory of someone like Wendell, telling a friend about the good work, or even just taking a little time to reflect on one of his poems or essays and then contributing to The Berry Center or any of the hundreds of worthy local organizations represented over at giveforgoodlouisville.org, today is a great day for it.

With all our gratitude and every good wish,
Your friends at The Berry Center.

Happy birthday, Wendell. We love you and are grateful.

I tremble with gratitude
for my children and their children
who take pleasure in one another.
In our dinners together, the dead
enter and pass among us
in living love and in memory.
And so the young are taught.
