Imagine walking through the store and suddenly it feels like you stepped into a full-on pajama party at the counter. These people really think it is normal to roll out of bed and walk around in cartoon prints and fleece like it is everyday wear. I’m just standing there watching them load up on groceries looking like they have not touched real clothes in years, and honestly it is wild how comfortable they are with it.

I even asked the manager why there is not some kind of basic standard, because the place is starting to feel more like someone’s living room than a store. And the craziest part is nobody seems bothered. I stood there long enough thinking maybe they would realize how ridiculous it looks, but they just kept going like this is completely acceptable.

At some point it just feels like people stopped caring entirely. There is a difference between being comfortable and just not trying at all. Walking into a public place in full pajamas like this should not be the norm, but clearly that line disappeared a long time ago.

If putting on actual clothes for a quick trip to the store feels like too much effort, maybe just stay home. Because the rest of us should not have to pretend this is normal when it clearly is not.

Real talk from dinner tonight…

Bill came out to $95.80. Nothing unusual. Food was good, service was fine, just a normal night out.

But then we see this sign:

“40% TIP REQUIRED
Anything less is unacceptable.”

Now hold on.

Forty percent?

That turns a $95.80 bill into a $38.32 tip, bringing the total to $134.12. That’s not a small bump—that’s a full jump into a completely different price range.

And that’s where it stopped feeling normal.

Because for as long as most people can remember, tipping has been somewhere around 15 to 20 percent. Maybe a little more for exceptional service, maybe a little less depending on the experience—but it was always within a range people understood.

Forty percent isn’t a range. That’s a demand.

At that point, it doesn’t even feel like a tip anymore. It feels like a required surcharge that’s being labeled as something optional when it clearly isn’t.

And that’s where the confusion comes in.

Are we still talking about tipping as a way to show appreciation for service? Or has it quietly turned into an expectation that keeps increasing without any real agreement from the people actually paying it?

Because going from 20 percent to 40 percent isn’t a small shift. That’s doubling the expectation.

Now you’re sitting there not just thinking about the meal, but doing the math in your head, wondering if this is really what dining out has turned into.

It changes the entire experience.

Instead of enjoying the night, you’re questioning the cost, the fairness, and whether you’re being put in a position where you either comply or feel like you’re doing something wrong.

So be honest…

If you saw a sign like that, are you paying it without question, or are you walking out?

Because at some point, people are going to start deciding that the experience isn’t worth the pressure that comes with it.

I just paid $30 for a SMALL popcorn and I’m genuinely trying to figure out which part of this experience cost extra. The popcorn itself? $18.50. Fine, cinema prices, whatever. But then they hit me with a “cinema atmosphere fee” like I personally requested the smell of butter and sticky floors. And a “seat warmth charge”??? I’m sorry, are we billing body heat now?? What’s next, breathing surcharge for oxygen inside the theater? And then they STILL suggest a tip like someone handcrafted each kernel individually. At this point I’m not watching a movie, I’m participating in a financial experiment.

I was just about to pick up my child from the library so i asked the front desk first if we could go inside with my dog and they said it was fine, so don’t act like i just walked in doing whatever i want

we were literally in and out and then my dog suddenly pooped near the entrance and everyone started acting like i ruined the whole place. i even told them right away and handed the cleaner a plastic bag, like what else do you want me to do, am i supposed to get on the floor myself while i’m trying to grab my kid??

and now i’m getting all these looks like i’m disgusting when there’s literally a janitor there for a reason. what exactly is their job if not to handle stuff like this?? you allow dogs inside but expect zero mess?? be serious

people are so quick to judge when the rules themselves don’t even make sense. if you don’t want situations like this then maybe don’t say pets are allowed in the first place

I was standing in line at Walmart just trying to pay and leave when a mom and her kid stepped in front of me looking like they had just rolled out of bed and decided everyone else just had to deal with it. No awareness, no hesitation, completely comfortable being out in public like putting in effort was optional.

What really stood out was how normal she acted. She’s unloading groceries, talking to her kid, going about everything like this is exactly how people are supposed to show up in the middle of the day. Meanwhile I’m standing there wondering when Walmart became the place where people go to show they’ve completely stopped trying.

Seeing the kid matching that same energy made it worse.

Because now it’s not just about you, you’re setting that same example for your child and showing them that this is acceptable.

Being comfortable doesn’t mean walking around like you’ve given up on yourself and your kid before noon.

I know people will say it’s not my business, but once you step out in public like that, it kind of becomes everyone’s business because now everyone has to see it. And honestly, some people only get defensive because they want to stop putting in effort and still feel validated for it.

Same tank.
Same routine.

Left receipt was $48.
Right receipt is $102.

Nothing changed except the price.

That’s not a small jump. That’s literally double just to drive.

And people are still acting like this is normal?

This is the kind of thing that slowly drains people every week. Getting to work, buying groceries, just living life. No upgrade, no added value, just paying more for the same exact thing.

But yeah… “it’s not that bad.”

So which one actually looks normal to you, $48 or $102? And at what point do you say enough is enough?

I sold this guy that old truck straight up, no promises, and he drove off happy with it. Thirty minutes later my phone starts blowing up with pictures of it leaking all over a parking lot like I’m supposed to drop everything and care.

He’s sending paragraphs acting like I scammed him, like I was hiding something, when it was running fine when he took it. You bought it, you drove it, that’s where my responsibility ends.

I didn’t even respond after the second message. Just looked at the pictures, shook my head, and blocked him. I’m not getting dragged into someone else’s problem because they don’t understand what buying a used vehicle means.

Now he can stand there staring at that puddle all he wants, but I’m not the one dealing with it anymore.

Just finished a DoorDash delivery and I’m honestly sitting here shaking my head. Do people really think $40 is some life-changing tip where you have to leave a note saying ‘hope this was enough’? 🤦🏽‍♂️
I drove across town, sat in traffic, waited at the restaurant while they took forever to finish the order, and then had to hunt down the customer’s apartment in one of those complexes where none of the buildings are labeled clearly.

Finally get the food to the door… and the tip was $40.

Now before everyone jumps on me—yes, I saw it. Yes, I know some people think that’s a “good” tip. But when you actually factor in gas, time, wear on your car, waiting around at restaurants, and driving across town, it’s really not what people think it is.

People assume throwing $40 on an order means the driver should be doing backflips with gratitude. What they don’t see is the hour it might take to complete the delivery or the miles added to the car just to make it happen.
Meanwhile customers expect VIP service—constant updates, perfect timing, hot food, and for drivers to magically find their door in a maze of apartment buildings. But drivers are supposed to just smile and accept whatever comes through the app like it’s amazing.
Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way, but sometimes it feels like people don’t realize how much actually goes into these deliveries.
Next time just tip what you think is fair… and maybe skip the little ‘sorry, hope this was enough’ note.

I barely get back to my car and spot it right away—not some tiny scratch you have to squint at, but a full-on crease in my door that definitely wasn’t there before. And instead of the person owning up to it like an adult, there’s just a note tucked into my mirror:

“Sorry, my cart got away from me. Here’s my number.”

That’s it. No waiting, no trying to find me, no actual conversation—just a quick apology and gone. Like damaging someone’s car is something you handle with a note and a fast exit.

I just stood there thinking… you had time to watch it happen, walk over, write a neat little message, and place it perfectly on my mirror—but not enough time to stick around and face it?

Yeah, I know some people will say “at least they left a note.” But if you had time to write all that, you had time to wait. Instead it’s “you deal with it later,” and I’m the one left staring at a dent and a piece of paper like that somehow makes it okay.

Been serving for eight years, and nights like this are exactly why people are quitting.

Table of two. Prime rib, drinks, full service. Bill was $71.11. They paid the $10.08 service charge and left the tip line blank.

Let me be clear: that service charge does NOT go to me. It says it right on the receipt. I make $2.13 an hour. Tips are my paycheck.

They told me everything was great. Smiled, chatted, thanked me… and then left nothing.

So yeah, I’m frustrated. Because I worked for that table. I kept their drinks full, cleared plates fast, gave them my full attention. And they decided the service charge was enough—even though they were told it wasn’t for me.

People wonder why restaurants can’t keep staff. This is why. You want good service, but you don’t want to pay the person providing it.

Tips aren’t some bonus. They’re the job.

And I’m tired of having to justify that.
