We celebrated my mom’s 80th on Saturday with a beautiful cake from Andrea. My sis, Moira helped organize the party and mc’d and cut the cake. It was a little slice of total human-ness in what’s been a pretty blurry busy summer made possible by the structures built over the last decade like still doing cold storage in Waitsfield, using these recipes created in more mentally crisp years (like the Apricot Yarrow Plum Elderflower Jam back in stock…swoon), to family showing up.
Yesterday I brought a big haul of fruit over the mountain. I do this every week July into October as VSP puts away several tons of tomatoes, peaches and plums. This time of year is always a leap of faith…lots of resources going out, stockpiling for productive coming months.
So glad we got to celebrate my mum in the midst of wild and wooly August harvest & work time. She (her devotion to the local food economy, friendship, conservation, always learning new things) continues to be such an inspiration for the work we do at VSP and Minifactory
