I seem to be in a Shenandoah frame of mind lately! It really is a spectacular place to visit!

Spotted several Cedar Waxwings while exploring - according to All About Birds, "they are called 'waxwings' because some of them produce waxy, bright red appendages on the tip of their secondary wing feathers... Cedar waxwings specialize in eating fruit, including overripe berries that have fermented in the sun, which causes the birds to become intoxicated!"

Keep your eyes in the trees and you may see a Cedar Waxwing too - they're fairly common in most of North America!

A few summers back, we had the chance to visit friends in the Los Angeles area. We all piled into one car and hit the road to San Francisco. What should have taken about 6 hours took all day, but we had some incredible stops along the way!

One of the best detours was for dinner in beautiful Monterey! Right across the bay from the restaurant was the Monterey Fish Company building. I was very lucky to catch the boat as it floated into position just as the gull flew across the frame!

Dinner was delicious, too!!

Have you ever traveled on a World War II landing craft? If you've ever taken Cross Sound Ferry from Orient Point to New London, you may have done just that!

"Built as a World War II landing craft (USS LST 510) in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the Cape Henlopen participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy in 1944 receiving one battle star for service. In 1966, it was converted to a passenger and auto ferry and served on the Lewes, Delaware - Cape May, New Jersey route. It was purchased in 1983 by Cross Sound Ferry and underwent a total refurbishment before entering service. The vessel was repowered in 2016 with Caterpillar 3516C Tier 3 engines for greater efficiency and lessening overall emissions. Cross Sound Ferry marked the 75th anniversary of the famous D-Day invasion with a major project aboard its vessel that served in the battle that changed the course of history."

In remembrance of Jackie, that very famous Bald Eagle from Big Bear CA, who sadly passed away yesterday 😪.

As sad as Jackie's passing is, her life on camera shined a spotlight on this majestic species, and has taught a new generation that we have to take better care of our planet to protect creatures like her!

Here are a few of my favorite eagle shots, from my front yard, from Centerport, Sayville and the North Fork of Long Island and even a few from Maine.

The resurgence of eagles in the wild just proves that conservation and preservation are working!
