After a lot of thought and discussion, the Howdyshell Family Farm has made the difficult decision to discontinue our egg production and sales.
What started as a way to provide fresh, local farm eggs to our community turned into a hard lesson about the reality many small family farms face today. Rising feed costs, equipment costs, labor, and the overall expense of operating a small farm continue to climb, while public support for local producers continues to shrink.
Unfortunately, without consistent community support, small family farms simply cannot survive.
People often say they want local food, fresh products, and small businesses to succeed — but too often convenience and big box stores win in the end. Across America, family farms are disappearing every day, not because they lack passion or work ethic, but because they lack enough support to stay afloat.
We want to sincerely thank every single person who bought eggs from us, shared our posts, supported our farm, or encouraged us along the way. Your support truly meant the world to our family.
While this chapter is coming to an end, we remain proud of the hard work, long hours, and care that went into everything we produced.
Please continue supporting your local farmers whenever you can. Once family farms disappear, they rarely come back.
