A little Bank Street history from upstairs at The Hunt!
I recently spotted this photograph in my landlord’s office foyer and had to share it. It shows Barton’s Department Store in the space The Hunt occupies today - more than 100 years ago.

Most people only remember Barton’s on Main Street, so this tends to spark a debate! But before its Main Street location, Barton’s was here on Bank Street. After Barton’s moved out, this space became Harts, the five-and-dime.

These are photos of that old photograph, and I’d love to hear what you remember. Did you shop at Barton’s? How about Harts? What other businesses have been in this space—or elsewhere along the Green? What a full-circle moment at the shop yesterday!!
Guy Wolff has visited us many times over the years, often stopping in for enamelware to use in his pottery studio. It’s always a pleasure when he comes by with his family and friends—they’re such warm, engaging people.
Yesterday, Guy brought two pieces of pottery up to the counter and asked where I’d found them. I was trying to remember when he told me why he was asking: THEY WERE HIS PIECES - he made them in the 1970s! He was so excited to see them again, and I was thrilled to witness the reunion.
One of my favorite things about running a vintage shop is discovering the stories behind the things that find their way here. Sometimes, those stories walk right through the door. Thank you, Guy, for letting me share this one. 💛
