Spotify’s rules say unless your track reaches 1000 streams in the first 12 months, they don’t make any payments to the artist. Which is pretty darn rough I think. After the first 1000 streams you get something like 0.003 cents per stream. Happy Days!
So it got me thinking.
My top song by simple volume of streams ‘Let’s Say All of the Things We’re Not Saying’ has 280 streams (today) and was released November 6.
So I need 720 streams in the next 103 days - eek! That’s just over 6 streams per day. Hmmm – not likely.
My top song for stream growth since release is ‘Still On My Mind’ with 203 streams since March 19.
So I need 797 streams in the next 236 days, which is 3.37 streams per day. Also tricky.
Apparently the algorithm also responds well to people saving songs and following my artist profile and will push out a song to fresh listeners if it starts to get a bit more momentum.
So if I can get about 20 extra people to follow my profile, like the songs that they like (I get it if you don’t like my songs – music is so personal!) and play a song (or 2 or 3) once a week or more, then maybe I can get to 1000 streams? Or not.
I'm enjoying the song writing tremendously and will have a new album out in February 2027. Recording starts next month.
