Tubby & Coo’s is a local q***r-owned, progressive, nerdy, independent book shop in Mid-City New Orleans focused on science fiction and fantasy, q***r, and diverse books. The shop is named after the owner’s grandparents, Tubby & Coo, who grew up in the same neighborhood where the shop is located. We’re a community center for nerds, geeks, and anyone who doesn't feel supported elsewhere. We believe in creating change through building community, promoting literacy, and demanding social justice. We also ensure our community has access to stories that reflect diverse experiences. We envision a future where everyone is empowered, able, and encouraged to tell their own stories, regardless of social class, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, race, age, or culture. Every voice deserves to be heard, and we work to build a world where all voices are equally important. TOMORROW!! Join Tubby & Coo's at 2pm CT on Crowdcast to kick off Pride month with a conversation about the the book Being Aro: A Collection of Aromantic Fiction About Love, Connection, and Empowerment with contributors Madeline Dyer, Taka Owen, Ann Zhao, and Julie Sondra Decker.

With bestselling and emerging YA authors, this anthology highlights the aromantic spectrum experience through multi-genre stories.

These twelve stories showcase aromantic people breaking generational curses, finding acceptance, and protecting the vulnerable while highlighting the infinite ways people find connection and love without romance.

A high school matchmaker learns a lesson about love. A rebellious spaceship pilot defies his culture’s compulsory coupling. A boy magically transforms banned romance novels into living dragons. A teen immune to romance, and the zombie virus, fights to survive the apocalypse. Being Aro is full of stories throughout real and imagined worlds that cross genres and disrupt the status quo.

🎵 I've got (another) golden tiiiiiicket! I've got a golden twinkle in my eyyye 🎶

Really excited to partner with yet again this year for Indie Bookstore Day on April 25! Once again, we'll be hiding the Golden Ticket in our shop at The Good Shop. If you find it, you'll win 12, yes TWELVE audiobooks, to last you a whole year! (Or if you devour audiobooks like we do, a whole week 😂)

The ticket will be hidden in plain sight, so no need to rummage around. We'll make it fun, but not impossible to find.

On Saturday, April 25 at The Good Shop, we'll have giveaways, the return of the NOLA bookstore passport, and more to celebrate Indie Bookstore Day. Check out our last post for all the amazing things you can expect!

Libro.fm is our audiobooks partner, and they're amazing! They're employee owned, they don't use AI, and your audiobooks are DRM free, which means YOU actually own them. Their app is really great and easy to use, too. And the thing we like best about Libro? They're actual people. Like, we know them, talk to them, and they always give us fun goodies when we see them around. Plus, they profit share with us (and other Indie bookstores), so that's not to shabby either.

So even if you don't find the Golden Ticket, we hope you give Libro a try! You can get two free audiobooks if you sign up for a membership with the code BOOKSTOREDAY.

And come see us April 25!

Chock full of amazing stories by some of our favorite writers. It's a map to a better world and an ode to, in our opinion, one of the best writers ever, Octavia E. Butler.

If you're looking for a book to guide you through these times, we can't imagine a better one.

Whenever we envision a world without war, prisons, or capitalism, we are producing speculative fiction. Organizers and activists envision, and try to create, such worlds all the time. Walidah Imarisha and adrienne maree brown have brought 20 of them together in the first anthology of short stories to explore the connections between radical speculative fiction and movements for social change. These visionary tales span genres - sci-fi, fantasy, horror, magical realism - but all are united by an attempt to inject a healthy dose of imagination and innovation into our political practice and to try on new ways of understanding ourselves, the world around us, and all the selves and worlds that could be.

Available at or on our Bookshop.org page!

Books may not be able to fix everything, but they can absolutely show you the way. The fascists don't want the people to have knowledge or come together, so we must.

Our mission is very clear. We are a liberationist bookstore here to uplift marginalized voices, build collective power, and demand social justice. We will continue to do these things as long as we can.

The Good Shop will be open tomorrow as a community space. Come in, lay on the floor, and scream if you need to. will donate 10% of sales to the Immigration Rapid Response Network in Minnesota to help impacted families pay rent.

We will donate 100% of profits from our Bookshop.org page tomorrow to the Southeast Dignity Not Detention Coalition, which helps immigrants locally.

We hope everyone will join the protest at 5:30pm at Armstrong Park tomorrow.

We take care of us. None of us are free until all of us are free. We're in this together. ✊

We know it’s been a while, but posting on social media for business has just seemed...unimportant in this moment. It isn’t normal to witness a genocide, along with ICE murders and everything else the state is doing, and then have to answer emails and run a business. But, here we are.

It’s easy to fall into despair. But hope is not just a “fuzzy feeling,” it is an active choice. It’s a decision we make every day to keep going, to act, to fight. It’s important to actively choose hope over despair when things are chaotic.

True revolution requires radical love built on small, consistent actions - helping your neighbor, feeding people, listening to each other. To do the work of fighting for justice and peace, we must radically love each other, and the world.

Even when things feel like they’re falling apart, especially then, it’s important to create space for joy and community. Joy and love *ARE* resistance. It’s how we continue on, despite opposing forces wanting us not to.

How do we keep going?

Community care.
Love.
Creativity.
Showing up for each other.
Finding joy where we can.

And we believe all of these are done through places like your community bookstore.

If we can help folks find a small amount of joy, find their community, be creative, and show up for each other, we want to keep doing that. We’re still here, reading books. Trying to build community and safety where we can. And we’re going to keep going.

Although it seems weird to keep doing “business as usual,” our business is spreading love, light, and joy, and that is needed now more than ever. So we’ve decided to continue our “business as usual,” not to be complacent or ignore what’s happening, but in spite of it.

Our wish for all of you is that you actively choose hope over despair every day. We hope you will be resisters who help to bring a new, more loving world into being. May you find peace in the promise that you are not walking through this storm alone.
