I wish I could explain how much I love being able to call this my job now. I am genuinely at ease here and look forward to every day I am here. Besides my photography, work has never felt more satisfying and rewarding as this does. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to own my dream store, do this with my wife, and be in the position to love what I do when I know for so many, that’s a very different story.

Introducing our Banned Books section 📚

Some of the most challenged books in America are the ones that matter most. Stories that need to be told about identity, history, race, and hard truths that make us think, feel, and grow. The benefits of taking a walk in someone else’s shoes through storytelling is a unique gift to perspectives we couldn’t otherwise have. We believe access to those stories shouldn’t depend on who’s trying to silence them. When we ban books, we don’t protect people, we impoverish them.

Book censorship doesn’t just remove a story from a shelf. It erases perspectives, silences marginalized voices, and denies people the chance to understand experiences different from their own. History is full of warnings about where this leads: regimes that ban books are almost always the ones that fear an informed public. A society that can’t confront its full history (even the dark times) is one that’s doomed to repeat its mistakes. Literature is how we build empathy, wrestle with hard truths, and pass wisdom across generations. Censoring books doesn’t keep people safe. It erases perspectives, silences marginalized voices, and robs us of the chance to learn from experiences different from our own. Societies that fear books usually fear an informed public.

CINCY BOOK CRAWL UPDATE:

We hope everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying the beautiful weather today! We’ve been getting a ton of questions about the Cincy Book Crawl this year, so we wanted to make a post about it.

Unfortunately, our store won’t be participating in the crawl this year. Before we officially opened, we reached out to ask about participating if everything went according to plan with our opening timeframe. When we were able to talk to someone, their response was that our store is too far outside the radius they use for participating stores.

Even though we’re bummed we aren’t able to be included, it’s a really fun event that Ashley and I have loved attending in the past, and we truly hope everyone goes out and has the best time supporting these indie bookstores. There are so many incredible stores Cincinnati & NKY has to offer, and an event like the Book Crawl makes such a big difference for the small business and bookstore community.

We’ll be cheering you on from here, and we can’t wait to hear about all of your great finds and fun times that weekend! Keep showing up for your Indie bookstores, we couldn’t keep our doors open without you. Wishing everyone the best Book Crawl yet!

Finally got the photos developed from our Grand Opening! All of the ones we took inside didn’t come out bright enough, but we did get these gems. I think about this day often and am still so thankful and in awe of the amount of people who showed up for us that weekend. Strangers who took a chance on us, waited in a line wrapped around the building for over an hour, took time out of their Saturday to celebrate with us, thank you will never be enough to repay that.

One of my favorite moments of the whole day, though, was Ashley coming outside to see the line that had formed for the first time. For many who didn’t get to see that: as soon as she peeked her head out of our front door, she immediately started to cry. We know to many this is just another bookstore, but to us, this was a dream come true. It’s a memory that will live rent-free in our minds forever, and we’re so grateful for it. People around town who live here have been telling us our opening day was something they have never seen before in New Richmond. 🥹 Still can’t fathom sometimes how this gets to be our life now. Thank you for the endless support so far.

Exciting update! 🚨

We are officially doing a midnight release party for A Court of Splintered Harmony! So many have asked us recently if we were doing a pre-order or release party, so now we are doing both. 🤩

Since we have such limited space to host people, we are partnering with the New Richmond Tavern just a couple doors down from us! The party will be October 26th from 8-12pm. We will have speciality cocktails & mocktails, food & fun activities! More details to come soon about the event & available tickets. Can’t wait to celebrate with you!
