The reason one size can honestly fit 1X–3X is the drawstring.

A kaftan should hang off you. Not swallow you.

Most of the "plus size kaftans look shapeless on me" problem isn't the kaftan. It's seven specific things nobody tells you to check before you buy. Here they are:

1 — The shoulder seam sits ON your shoulder. If it's drooping down your arm, the whole garment reads as a bedsheet.

2 — V-neck if you're b***y. A round neck at 1X and up shortens your torso and adds width right where you don't want it.

3 — Match print scale to your frame. Small repeating prints on a larger frame look busy. Go bigger.

4 — Look for vertical or diagonal motifs. Horizontal bands across the widest point do exactly what you'd expect.

5 — Belt at your natural waist — the narrowest point, usually just above the navel. Belting at the hip is the single most common mistake.

6 — Satin drapes and clings. Polyester holds its shape and skims. Pick for the occasion, not the price.

7 — Colorblocking does structural work that a belt can't. A contrast panel creates a waist that isn't there.
