In light of recent events in the news, we feel it’s important to speak openly and clearly.
At Oz Curiosities, and within the true oddity community as a whole, we do NOT condone the behavior exhibited by individuals such as the man referenced in these reports.
A member of our community has already articulated this issue very well, and we will be sharing his perspective here. We also want to be absolutely clear that any and all pieces we have sold in the past were NOT sourced in this manner, nor through any means that could be considered illegal or unethical. We take sourcing seriously, conduct thorough research, and work exclusively with reputable, lawful sources.
Beyond that, we make a conscious effort to ensure our items are placed with people who respect the history, culture, nature, and humanity they represent. In fact, we have declined sales in the past when a potential buyer’s intentions or ethics did not align with our own. Respect is not optional in this space.
What this individual did desecrating graves and disrespecting the de*ad, people who never consented to such treatment in life, is reprehensible. It makes a mockery of history, ethics, and the values many of us work hard to uphold. We NEVER had any connection to this man and just from looking at his posts after the news hit, you could tell things were sketchy.
Unfortunately, some media coverage written by those unfamiliar with our community, its laws, and its ethical standards has painted the entire oddity community in a negative light because of the actions of a few people. That narrative is inaccurate and deeply unfair. This is why education and thoughtful discussion matter. The purchase and possession of Hooman remains is NOT illegal in most of the U.S. , but there are many laws by state that pertain to how to legally obtain and/or sell them.
We encourage you to take a moment to read Paul Gambino’s article on this topic, which provides important context and a much-needed, informed perspective.
