Hi loves, I’ve been waiting to write these words for a long time ~ KAURI is here.
For those of you who’ve been with us from the beginning, you know the significance of the cowrie shell for us. She’s sat at the centre of every IHUOMA bra we’ve made, a small gold adornment that’s been more than a detail. For centuries across Africa, the cowrie carried the energy of abundance, protection & sacred feminine. She was currency & power. She was worn close to the skin because our ancestors understood that what you place on your body carries meaning. Kauri is the collection we’ve been moving towards since the day IHUOMA was born.
On a recent trip to East Africa, we stopped in Nairobi. That jungle green, so alive - It found its way straight into the silk before we even left, because that is what Africa does. She gives you more than you came for.
And then Zanzibar, Tanzania, my birth place. I shot this campaign, on the island where my own story began, on Africa soil, with a beautiful African crew, for a brand that A’isha and I have poured our hearts into. Standing there with the camera Yesterjoys (an African brand) in my hands, the warm Indian Ocean light falling on these pieces, I felt something I can only describe as abundance. This collection was truly shaped by the Motherland herself.
Three collections born from that journey. Kauri on our signature chocolate silk. Zanzibar on gold & Nairobi on jungle green. Some exciting new silhouettes as well as our popular styles, all with the same deep intention. Magical doesn’t explain just how this has been.
