Inspiring visit to Mariko Mori's residence in the Miyako Islands. We were guided through a sun-drenched tea room and workspace that seamlessly merged with the blue sea and cliffs. What a wonderful hideaway to escape and practice tea. Thank you Mariko Mori for your generous invitation.

Glass Chawan, tea wares by Keiji Okushima.

Keiji Okushima works primarily in hand-blown glass, embracing the material's molten fluidity rather than smoothing it away—he blows deliberately against symmetry, letting drips and the momentary gesture of hot glass in motion remain visible in the finished form. Alongside blowing, he uses kiln casting for sculptural pieces and his own suehari process, coating unfired clay directly with glass and firing it in his glass furnace. His signature technique is self-developed: he abrades the glass for grip, paints on urushi lacquer, presses on silver leaf at the exact moment the lacquer's tack peaks, then ages the silver and fires the piece to fuse the glass, lacquer, and metal into a single durable layer. The result is glassware with a mottled, patinated surface and an unresolved, fluid quality — tea bowls and sake vessels that read as much like geological formations as blown glass.

All our Japanese matcha is grown and processed in Uji, Kyoto, using traditional methods suitable for formal tea ceremonies. Our proprietary blends emphasize the unique flavors of the tea cultivars and are not categorized by grade or quality. Similar to w**e, using only prestigious varietals from old-growth trees yields the finest matcha blends that have stood the test of time. We have been producing our own matcha for over a decade, ensuring top quality, consistency, and value.
Our blends are crafted from Tencha sourced from the top 10-15 awarded farmers, guaranteeing a dedicated annual allocation.

Selected works by Yui Tsujimura has arrived, centered on three vases shaped like cut bamboo — a form drawn from the humble vessels used in summer tea gatherings as fresh-water containers. Each mottled surface and cracked lip echoes how the plant splits and weathers with age. Alongside them sit a handful of flower-shaped vessels that round out the collection's forest feeling, their soft, organic silhouettes grounding the bamboo forms in something quieter and more natural.

Available to view starting this Saturday, Aug. 15th at our Tribeca gallery.

This year's Buddha's Balhyo by tea master Kim Jong-yeol features a subtle adjustment: he uses lower heat after his usual long fermentation process. This shift enhances an elegant floral note upfront before the tea reveals its characteristic tannic backbone. Unlike black teas from other regions, Korean Balhyo is made from the same wild Hadong tea bushes that produce Korea's renowned green teas, not from a cultivar developed specifically for oxidation. The leaf remains unchanged; only the method and heat transform it. As a result, every cup of Balhyo carries traces of its green tea roots, now refined through fermentation into a distinct and unique tea.
