25 years… we remember. Families and lives are still being effected to this day. This past year we lost my father in law Gary to 9/11 related illnesses.
Marrying into a family of Firefighters I’ve heard many stories of brave men and women.
But I want to share a few words from my Mother In-law..
“I will never forget that day as long as I breathe. The loss of life, security, freedom happened that day. I remember sitting in the conference room with some of my best friends. We worked together for over 25-30 years at that time. We shared so much of our lives, birth of children, marriages, sickness and death. And we shared the worst day together.
Thank God for these strong women. We walked together to the 59th street bridge and separated at that point. I walked over the bridge with hundreds of people but felt totally alone. Looking south to where the towers once stood all you saw was smoke. I wanted to get home to my son Eric, who had just started middle school and I knew how worried he would be. He jumped for joy when he saw me. Now he is a firefighter for FDNY and I hope he never sees another 9/11. So many friends never got to say goodbye to loved ones and still haven’t had closure. Death & suffering as a result of that attack are still occurring, hitting many of us at home.
May all those lost that day and the days and years following rest in continued peace.”
