How to wash a dog
So I wash my dog. She was rolling in mud (or something worse) and you bought her the right shampoo. Let's move on to the most important. This is how dogs are washed:
1. Lay a rubber mat in the tub. The dog is not afraid if he feels support under his feet. If there is no mat, a regular rag or towel will do. The main thing is that the paws do not slip in the wet bath. Wash small dogs in a basin or sink. A large bathtub can intimidate a small Yorkie or Spitz.
2. Gently pour warm water over your dog. Water should be just warm, not cold and not hot. Water from the shower, because no one likes a powerful jet from a tap. Especially small dogs. Make sure that water does not get into your ears. They can be gently plugged with a cotton swab.
3. Dilute the shampoo in water, ratio 1:5. Water the dog with this solution, try not to concentrate all the shampoo in one place. The solution is better distributed even in thick wool. If you lather your dog with regular shampoo, there is a chance that all the product will concentrate in one place.
4. Lather the dog well and massage all the coat. Be careful not to get foam in your eyes or ears.
5. Rinse thoroughly with water. This is the most important and crucial step, because washing off the foam is much more difficult than soaping the dog. Do not leave soap under the coat. This threatens to irritate. Rinse especially underarms and the back of the neck, where foam may remain in the folds of the skin.
6. If your dog has many folds - like a Shar Pei - rinse each fold very thoroughly. If there is shampoo left, irritation will easily begin.
7. Get the dog out of the bath, don't let him jump out onto the wet tiles.
8. Rub the dog with a towel and let dry. Usually dogs start running around the room, rubbing their heads and sides against the carpet and furniture. You should not use a hair dryer, because it is harmful to wool and skin.
9. Do not take the dog outside until the coat is completely dry, do not allow it to lie in a draft.
How to wash a dog if he is afraid
This rarely happens because most dogs love water. Therefore, first you need to find out what exactly the dog is afraid of. Maybe it's the noise the bath makes, or the temperature of the water. In general, for “shy” dogs, the recommendations are: start getting used to it as early as possible and talk softly to the dog during the bath. Do not yell or punish the dog if it is afraid.
